My M4 with Curt 11367 trailer hitch installed

Took a chance and ordered the Curt 11367 hitch for my M4. I can confirm it does fit with some minor heat shield "sculpting" and a notch cut in the exhaust valence. I'm very pleased with the results.

Shield your eyes hitch-haters.

CF diffuser and it probably disappears. FWIW I have seen hitches on sports cars that are > $250k

Bravo!! to you for trying this. I might do the same, but it would be painful/joyfull at the same time. Do you have more pics from a little further away?

The thing I like about the BMW OEM screw-in-racks was how easy they were to literally take on and off at each use. I just left the whole unit in tact and unscrewed the mounts.

Bravo for trailblazing the fitment. I'd rather have my bikes behind me than on the roof anyway.

Is that a 1-1/4" or 2" receiver?

It's a 1-1/4" receiver.

CF diffuser, great idea!

I will try to take some more pics from a distance this week.

Very clean setup. Looks like an SB5c, XT Trail pedals and King rear hub from what I can see?

Good eye. It's an SB6c. Correct on the pedals and hubs.

AWESOME!!!!! Thanks for trail-blazing this!!! I only wish I had seen it before buying a bike carrier for my roof rack since I prefer to run a hitch rack. I still need the rack for my kayaks though, so the CF roof still won't work for me.

Top work - well done.

Sorry if this should be obvious, but how does the hitch receiver attach to the car? I always look at these tow hitch-mounted bike carriers and marvel at the strain placed on the hitch, so I'd want to be totally sure that the mounting points are rated for the hitch.

I talked to a hitch installer here in vancouver and he said he wouldn't cut a CF diffuser... something about it cracking or... not really sure why he flatly refused.
So doing it yourself, perhaps using tape over the cut and working slowly with a dremel. The BMW diffuser has a middle fin that might reach out past the lip at the end of the hitch. That fin would also make cutting more difficult. Just issues to consider.

Thanks!

The hitch receiver attaches underneath the rear bumper beam using the same mount points and nuts as the bumper beam.

Curt's got the full specs and install instructions for a 328 which give a good idea how everything fits together on their website. http://www.curtmfg.com/part/11367

So, did you have to drill any new holes or anything, or just a matter of bolting parts on? And forgive me if you mentioned this or not, but was it on an M3 or an M4, and if an M3, does it look like there is much difference for an M4?

This was on an M4. No drilling necessary. I did need to trim and reshape the exhaust heat shield and cut the notch in the rear valence and its plastic support.

did one of these on our X3... not thrilled about removing the stock metal bumper because the new unit is clearly with less coverage but that's what the company recommended so .... I did it.

of course our x3 uses the 2" receiver so that's probably the reason I don't do this ..

whats the white plastic piece with what looks like a flat antenna, and a round antenna on it? Are those part of the rear sonar? Or are they part of the ABS system?

In Europe you would see your M3 towing a pop-up or full size camper!

if i didn't have the x3 (or other suitable tow vehicle) i would do that here at least have a hitch for a small trailer and bike rack anyway... and throw the tent in the trunk

Bad ass bike for a bad ass car, this would look nice on a BSM M4...... if they made a hitch for my M235 I would be in business. Right now I just shove it in the back with the seats down
