Exclamation FAILED Texas Inspection (BM3 Stage 2/Catless DPs)

Like the title says, I went to have my annual TX state inspection done, and it failed!

You're only allowed one "not ready" and I had three.

Trying to find out what my options are.

I'm running a custom BM3 stage 2 tune + VRSF catless DPs.

Thanks in advance!

Put back your oem dp and every problem solved. Or find a shop that takes $$ to help you pass.

So, it's really that easy? Just revert back to OEM DPs and I should be okay?

What about the BM3 tune? Can I leave that as-is (ie, stage 2) or do I need to flash it back to stock?

Thanks!

The stock dp should be enough but why risk it. Only takes 10 minutes to flash back to stock.

The lack of cats is the reason why you are failing emissions. That's their job. The tune at idle should not cause any issues. Some states also connect to your OBDII connection to read data. Some can detect a tune, so going back to stock is a good idea. The fact that you've already failed they may pay closer attention.l to your car.

Priceless 😅 Either get a tune that makes your cats show ready or swap back to stock, conduct a drive cycle to make sure your checks are ready then return back to the shop.

Sounds like you might be in over your head. Best to get an OBD2 reader so you can check your status before arriving to the shop.

As others have said , simply put your STOCK DP back on and emissions won't be an issue.

Or find a local hookup

OR...consider getting race-catted DPs and/or spacers to move your lambda-probes back far enough to not be in the exhaust mainstream.

Thanks for the advice guys!

I'll have the OEM DPs put back on, and then back to the VRSF DPs after passing inspection...

By your own admission, since everything is hard to do on the car, why would smogging it with emissions controls removed somehow be easy? Why are you "VERY surprised" about this?

running with no cats and changing software has nothing to do with the car being a BMW. still amazed at how you didn't see the link between removing a catalytic converter and failing emissions

Here is the Wikipedia definition for you

Quote:
A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that reduces toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction (an oxidation and a reduction reaction).
