Great Post
Lovey chat about what makes M special. The new M4 really hits the mark well and is a great starring point for more extreme versions. May they come soon and be affordable so many can enjoy.
I hope Mr. Biermann continues to make good things at M and I sincerely his new boss supports his way of thinking (meaning no wooden Audis please!). |

Very nice info.
But now put an E30 M3 next to an M3/M4 and then walk around it. Something went wrong somewhere Last edited by Advevo; 11-04-2014 at 07:11 AM.. |

you hear that E30 motor in the beginning? video shows why NA is much better when entering (Downshift) corner and especially exiting (maintain low gear high rpm) corner than any turbo car. Lap times E30 1:09:1 F80 1:13:1

Lots of nice information, but I'm disappointed the interviewer didn't ask about the most talked about and controversial topic, - the exhaust note

What is there to ask? It is what it is. It's a turbo motor, and it will never have induction noise worth a damn. The exhaust note is actually alright. There is a lot going on in the background (farts, burps, snarls, sneezes, blow-off valves) that you miss on cell-phone videos of idles or stationary revs (which do sound like a diesel). It will never sound as good as the outgoing V8, but it sounds pretty good for what it is. In the worst case, you can say it has character, which will either grow on you or won't. A more pertinent question perhaps would be why the interior sound is so goofy-sounding, but that's a question more for the sound engineers than gear-heads, and I'm sure the aftermarket will start fiddling with ActiveSound sooner or later.

Great interview. Spinelli is still kinda awkward! I remember seeing all those GT cars in the background at bimmerfest! That E46 GTR is a freaking monster!
