Issue with M performance steering wheel

I had the stealer install an M performance steering wheel that I purchased as part of my financing. Since then the lane drift warning shakes the wheel BADLY and very loudly - not the normal small vibration. Passengers in the car ask WTH is happening. It is loud and very obnoxious and strong shaking (not vibrating). I hate this steering wheel (too thick at the top) but wondering if the stealer installed it incorrectly. Of course they're saying they didn't and this steering wheel "does that". Not sure why but having a hard time believing them...

Should have the tech test drive it with you, drift lanes, and see if he thinks it's 'normal', if you haven't already done this. Sounds like something's wrong. Do you have your original wheel, so you can swap it out? Also, is this the electronic M-Performance wheel?

I have the electric one. I had it installed at my dealer before I picked it up. it vibrates the same as my friends 335ix Msport. I don't see how it shakes or that your passengers feel it. Maybe stay in your lane? but seriously, take it in and have them check it out.

... Or there is a female edition for these and in that case I want the info on where to get one!

Good to see an other female here, welcome.

I can't tell if you got the wrong quote, you are making fun of me, or you are referencing the shaking of the wheel, in any event, I like my wheel, and it vibrates not much more than my cell phone.

We've met, haven't we? As a rule always expect the worst!

That comment was for the op, made to say maybe she just got the right kind of a wheel. Hell, hearing about yours makes makes me not to want one and I don't even have lane assistance thingies.

Just welcoming an other blond to the crew, be easy with me Mr Blue or I'll make fun of you at the next rtc!

Haha you're awesome. Hope we meet one day at an event! And yeah I guess it could serve another purpose but that adjuster lever would need to drop. Lmao

A cushion under the driver? You could probably drive around your girlfriends and charge for the miles from the passengers. Hell, sell me the faulty one. I could get a car with lane assist!

The boys here are a bit stiff at times, but they are completely housebroken by now so don't worry!

My car is Peter, and I do hope you keep us posted with your steering wheel issues which I refuse to see as issues but opportunities.

I have the same louder clicking sound on my wheel when it vibrates. That said I love it. I use the temp gauges when I first start up and then move to the timer on my runs into town.

I have the same wheel but no driver assist stuff so I can't comment exept to say that maybe turn all that stuff off? I remember when the wheel first shook in my wife's benz when I drifted lanes... Which is always because it's all twisties around here... I almost jumped outa my seat. I called and said something was very wrong with the car. I don't know who came up with driver assist, but it belongs on a Prius not an M-car.

I imagine it was the same genius that thought sending the exhaust sound through the speakers was a good idea.

Thanks. I'm not sure why the theoretically better wheel has to make such an obnoxious sound and vibration. I have that featured disabled until the stealer fixes or I'll put the original back on

I'll ask my dealer to look at it at the next service visit. In the meantime I'm leaving it all on and there's no way I'm removing the wheel. Along with the m exhaust it's one of my favorite experiences of the car.

Solution and wheel for sale

As it turns out, the tech had never installed one of these before. They didn't put the dampening material around the pieces inside. It is fixed and vibrates normally now. I still hate how thick the steering wheel is. If anyone is interested in buying the high-end performance steering wheel for 200 less than I paid with 100 miles on it, message me! I want my stock wheel back on
