Oil Cooler Oil Leak on New M4
Maybe this is from the ground but as I was re-torquing my front end suspension (trying to get rid of steering click post MPHAS install), I noticed this while sliding out from underneath the car. Hard to say if it splashed up or down but I went ahead and cleaned it off and going to drive a bit and park over a piece of cardboard to see if it accumulates. Oil level seems fine...dealer time?

Update, also to add-I didn't see any oil on the top of the cooler...so I'm kind of scratching my head here. Perhaps I just need to get it back up on the raceramps and pull the belly pan off. Last edited by slaughter.mode; 05-27-2018 at 12:09 AM.. |

I'd take it to the dealer. Answer their questions as if you were questioned by the FBI. Yes/No. Mostly No.

Took into dealer today. My SA called the foreman in and he took a quick look and said, "yeah I don't know what that is but I'll just change the oil cooler, piping, etc. to be safe, that's definitely coming from one of the lines but it's not good." Case closed, kind of worrisome though on a BRAND new car to have this issue.
Update: My SA called me to give an update. They changed the oil cooler, it was leaking. Wow. Brand new car without any damage to the oil cooler but it was leaking anyway. Kinda scary but case closed. Last edited by slaughter.mode; 05-31-2018 at 04:52 PM.. |

I would recommend everyone just take a quick peek. They failed to mention anything about it when it was brought in for it's 1200 mile service not long ago. The rate of which it was leaking is so slow it had to have been an issue then as well. Also got a free oil change out of it (of course).

They should top off the oil. Is it on page 2 by any chance ?

Nope. The oil level used to be max, now it's half way down the bar...I asked and my SA stated there was no need to, because it was still within "OK" levels. Horrible man...just horrible. The whole experience with this dealer was poor.

go to other dealer. There are multiple decent SA in the area.
Still, good catch with oil cooler small leak - it could be much more damage involved.

I wouldn’t worry about the oil. SA is right. Still within spec. Ask for an extra liter of oil and put in trunk.
These electric gages are finicky. If you add too much, you’ll have to drain. I think the dealer added oil though. Hard for me to imagine that replacing an oil cooler is only half a liter. |
