ECLELAND YMB F80 ED Order & Intro
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com THIS IS GETTING REAL. JUST GOT AIRLINE TICKETS AND UPDATED THE ITINERARY TO INCLUDE NICE FRANCE AS THE NEW DROP-OFF LOCATION I have been on Bimmerpost since 2011 when I got back in the market for my 3rd BMW after a 4 year detour with a GTI, picking up a 335d. The past 18 months I’ve been dreaming and planning a Euro Delivery trip and its now official. I just got confirmation for ED on Monday July 6th and I thought I ought to introduce myself (for those who wonder if there more to me than my sarcastic posts - what can I say I love irreverent humor and sarcasm) to put it in context a bit. THE BUILD: YMB F80 ( Keep it to yourself smurf haters )I guess i’ll be getting one of the last of the 2015s so no 2016 LCI for me. How will I ever cope without those LED Tail Lights?! Ok Im already over it I am happy with my deal on the F80. Shopping consisted of reading this forum and reaching out to two well respected dealers (one on the left and one of the right coast) that handle a lot of ED orders. I got offers from both dealers and took the better of the two at several $K below ED MSRP. I wasted a bit of time talking to dealers here is TX who aren’t even sure if Euro Delivery is a real thing They talk likes it an urban legend (roll eyes) or something they heard about once in an alternate reality and quickly steer the conversation away. ED ITENERARY: 7/1 Depart DFW 10pmAfter the Euro Delivery I also plan to do PCD in Spartanburg SC sometime in Sept I assume. I grew up in Western NC and my parents lives about 30-40 min from there. I will no doubt take the scenic route back home picking up the western leg of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville NC. I kind of feel sorry my new M3. It will first see some of the most beautiful scenery in Alps followed by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery in the US before making our way home to the Texas panhandle LOL. Lets just say its a good thing I enjoy detailing. As if west Texas wan’t dusty enough I also live in a new neighborhood surrounded by new home construction. PLANNED MODS: Aside from de-chromeing, tinted windows, and some level of clear bra I don’t have any definite plans yet. I am thinking about the following: YMB painted ///M Performance lip with CF Splitters CF Mirror caps ///M Performance rear defuser Further down the road I may look at some aftermarket wheels and exhaust I can't even express my excitement! INTRODUCTION: Now for those who care to read on here is a little more about me and Ill update with pics over time.... As a 12 year old with a subscription to Car and Driver in the 80s I had numerous Porsche 911 magazine ads taped to my bedroom wall (one day I will also have a 911). I have been passionate about cars for as long as I can remember. My first experience with BMW was an E46 323i that a friend of mine in Charlotte got back in 2000. Just one ride in the passenger seat and I was hooked. I am one of those who picks a team and generally sticks with it; I was a Honda guy for may years. My first car (not counting the POS diesel VW Rabbit my parents bought for us kids to drive) was a yellow ’88 Honda Prelude 4WS and I loved that car (Great handling and the 4 wheel steering was a blast) and I owned many Hondas through the 90’s and early 2000s but by the late 90s Honda had lost me but I just hadn’t yet been won over to another “team" until that E46 test drive. At that time they were not in my price range, It took a couple years before it made financial sense but in ’03 I picked up a silver ’01 that I loved and have alway regretted getting rid of after trading it on an ’06 when the E90 came out. I’m not bagging on the E90 as I owned two but it never had the same “charm” the E46 did for me. After selling my E90 335d (loved the 425 lb/ft torque) this past fall I toyed with picking up an old E46 330i as a project car (wife hated the idea of a project car) but I ended up being seduced by an E82 135i M-Sport. I had never even considered one or even driven one until a few months ago. Reminds me so much of my old E46 but with a lot more power. This car is going to be a keeper. After the F80 is redelivered this fall I will probably say goodbye to the Mini, which means by default my son will get to drive the 135 (what a spoiled rotten brat!! LOL) but I really like the car so I guess my obsession is my son gain. He still has to earn the privilege (I have a driving privilege contract with my son which results in no driving privilege for any number of reasons) He’s just like me and counted the days to get his license (the day after his 16th) but only after fulfilling the "license contract” so he wants nothing to do with lost driving privileges and like me he has had a job since he was 15 bagging groceries to save money to own his own car. (No I am not still bagging groceries but he is lol) I am working really hard to instill in him the same car passion as he certainly loves the idea of a car as much as I did at his age. He was helping me with the 135 in the garage right after I brought it home and we realized that with my wife’s white X5, The Crimson Red 135 and the YMB M3 on its way our 3 car garage with have Red, White and Blue Bimmers! I may have picked a German team but I’m still patriotic I enjoy detailing my cars and the oversized 3 car garage in our new home was designed to make detailing easy year around (pics to follow), I have warm water hose reel and CR Spotless system for spot free rinses which is critical with our hard water around here. The garage floor has just enough slope to allow washing in the garage with the over-head door cracked to let the water easily drain down the driveway in winter or when its just too hot out. The wife just doesn’t get it, but generally appreciates the fact that her X5 is well cared for even thought I may spend sun up to sun down some Saturdays pampering the cars or tooling around in the garage. So anyway thats a little about me… Oh yea one more thing if you have followed any of my posting I tend to be BIT sarcastic. I love sarcasm and friendly banter it doesn’t alway translate for everyone and no offense is ever intend and I never take offense. Life is too short to expend any emotional capital on the opinions of others. I choose to accept them for what are and hope others do the same but lets have some light hearted fun along the way... Please. I say this as it would appear that my contributions to a recent thread may have crossed that line for some as they were purged by the moderators. Oh well I will try and contain my sense of humor Update coming this weekend on the garage project. I basically have it done with the exception of Swisstrax flooring that will be added a little later this spring. You're going to have a lot of fun in Europe. Why is your ED date so far away? By choice? I dont think I could wait until Aug-Sept for my car to get stateside.

WELCOME! And congrats on the order!
I too, was a huge BMW fan before I got into my M4. My past cars are in my signature as you'll see below. I always wanted to do the ED for when I would buy my first M, but the opportunity presented itself and I just had to do it. So make sure you enjoy the ED for me as well please! Firstly, don't stress about which model you'll get. You'll see that no matter what you wait for, a year and a half later, something else is replacing it. I have a YMB M4 coupe, carbon roof with every option minus the CCB, so I can say that you are going to ABSOLUTELY LOVE the color. The thumbs up, pictures, compliments, comments will be on a daily basis, so get ready. It's a great feeling. My last two cars were black so it was a nice change. As far as the mods go, I'll be posting all my progress in the next few days, so you'll get to see what I've done with my baby, but beware, mods are drugs...its that addicting. You'll find yourself saying, " Well the trunk spoiler would really make the diffuser pop, I have to do it" and before you know it, IND will be your most common charge on your credit card statement every month haha(money well spent IMHO) But good luck through the wait, it is WELL WORTH IT. And welcome!

While I live in Amarillo I am frequently in Dallas (Galleria area) for work, once I get the car I am sure Southwest Airlines will see a dip in air traffic between Amarillo and Dallas cause I won't be able to resist driving. I will need a really good radar detector as all those small towns in-between are littered with speed traps manned by very board cops If you are ever in Dallas we may pass each other on the tollway

Garage Update
This July we will have been in our new home two years. I have slowly been
plugging away on a garage project. A garage worthy of the future occupant. To be honest my view is that the garage should be just as well laid out, organized and clean as the rest of the house but sadly I am along in that priority. I hope that if it is nice enough the wife and kids may develop just a bit more care :roll eyes: Its an over sized 3 car garage that if I had to do over would be very different, hell when I build my next house it will be a bit smaller with a bigger garage (two 2-car garages one which is just for me). With it being a new house I started with a clean slate but didn't think to take a proper before pic but basically this is what I started with My goals: - Paint it (the existing white just shows dirt too much) - To have ample storage (minimize stuff on the floor) - Dedicate the 3-car parking pad to the cars as much as possible - For everything to have a place. - A well organized auto detailing area - A small work bench - Some kind of floor covering A few pics of the progress so far: I really like the CR Spotless system. Even though my cold/hot water bibs in the garage are connected to the soft water system it is no where near capable of a spotless rise. With they system you can let the car air dry after the final rinse and its spot free! Really the last major step in the process is the floor. I am planning to do the Swisstrax Ribtrax flooring just like @Money2536 Last edited by BD SM3RF; 03-14-2015 at 01:18 PM.. |
