Drove from DC to Orlando and back a few weeks ago. Averaged about 26-27 MPG. Road noise varied based on surfaces; some whisper quiet others louder than the stereo. Seats started to get uncomfortable after about six hours, but that could also just be sitting that long. That little "Want to stop and get a cup of coffee?" reminder should definitely be heeded assuming you're not already taking extended refueling stops.
Shuttled between Efficient and Sport+ engine modes. Had to remind myself a couple of times that to overtake and really accelerate though, DCT really needs to be in S mode, not D. |

Fantastic 4-week 2000 mile road trip with the family (wife + 3 year old daughter + 6 month old son) across Europe during ED in the M4. So yes, M3/4 are perfect for a road trip. That is what makes these cars so great .

OP, there are some similar threads you may wish to look over, including this one that I recall:
http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1486553 There are some others too that I remember seeing that you should be able to locate. I don’t think there should be any concerns about gas mileage or the car’s reliability.

I haven't, but I would love to take this car on a long road trip. The seats are amazing, the ride is fantastic, the power is all there and she's under warranty so I can just press a button if something goes wrong and they can come and get it hah.
80+ hour work weeks don't leave much time to long road trips though. |

I did 3,000+ miles. Averaged 60mph and 23.4 mpg as per trip computer. A good deal of city traffic and a bunch of spirited mountain driving on the journey. And it was packed to the gills.
Very happy with the car.

I had a amazing road trip with freinds recently. Was amazing to plan trip on phone and send it to connected drive etc. This car begs to be taken to twisties.. its quite dull on highways and the second car was a tuned rs6 so it had me beat every which way on straight roads.

I can't road trip in the M3. It's already too uncomfortable for me on relatively short 300 mile drives (3-4 hours).
Although, I find it amazing that a 425 HP sports sedan can drive up and down mountain roads quite spiritedly with a load, A/C on and still average 22-23 mpg. |

Well noise on bad roads is the same as a regular 3 series. I drove mine from PDC to Connecticut and did not have any issues. The car felt solid and on par for the class.really this is a normal car that can be turned into a race car if you wish.

sf to portland and back, over 1200 miles, av 27 mpg, the car was new then i would expect better now. 6 speed manual, 2016. mostly in sport plus and at fast speeds. ac on and 3 people and luggage to weigh me down.
every day driving, average speed about 32, so mixed gives me 23-25 mpg. |

Yep, did a round trip from Texas to Georgia, me and a load of bike stuff. It was fantastic, comfortable for two consecutive 8 hour days each way, decent mileage (27 at a variety of speeds), and fun with the top down in the GA mountains.
Cheers

Took a nice 1,000 mile road trip in the first 48 hours of getting my F80 ZCP last weekend. Picked it up in Los Angeles area, drove through a ton of canyons that branch out from Mulholland and eventually took Mulholland from far east starting point to the west. Took Highway 101 to Morro Bay and took Highway 1 as far as I could before I hit the landslide road closure. Then took a series of backroads since 101 had horrendous traffic to eventually make it back home to San Francisco.
Love this car and every mile I've driven in it so far! |

Convinced her it's German Riesling wine country & coincidentally its only 40min away from the Ring Actually just got back from the Nürburgring an hour ago. Wow, just, wow. First time ever. Complete mixture of emotions. Fear, exhilarating, pure adrenaline. I think the added emotions come from driving a brand new car uninsured on a race track during "Tourist" driving. Drove my car for 2 laps, saw an accident (I avoided it as it happened maybe 30sec before I arrived) then parked my car, walked around enjoying the cars until the all clear then took a Ring Taxi in a Porsche GT3 RS for a 7:38 lap. Drove straight back after that. My head is literally still spinning!!! |
