Over-The-Air map update
Can someone confirm that OTA map updates has worked for them in CANADA?
If so, please indicate which version is available for North America and which Regional version you have. Thanks |

CAN, AK, latest update I've got is 2019-2 about 4 weeks ago. I don't think we in Canada can change the region.
I actually downloaded North America EVO 2018-1 last year and installed via USB stick. System doesn't ask for FSC code or anything so it's free. Maps can be obtained online, no need to go to Bmw. I did it because my car seem to be stuck a year behind with updates. Got the car in July 2018 with a map 2017-1, in August 2018 got the first update and it was 2017-2 R1. Not sure if our region didn't have anything more recent but it was odd to see a year old update and I knew 2018-1 map was already out. After manual installation of 2018-1 it works as advertised. I'm getting most recent (at least the same year) OTA updates about every 3-4 months. Can't confirm if system would keep updating 2017-3 and 2017-4 (late in 2018 already) before getting to 2018-1 and 2018-2 sometimes in 2019, if that's the case I'd recommend manual update to the most recent map available. |

Try searching other F series forums within bimmerpost, users usually leave Mega download link or similar. If you wanna pay, there's few websites (google will lead you there) offering download links for about $50 or more, probably giving you the same Mega links. Make sure to download right version for your vehicle, there are NEXT and EVO maps.

After download is complete, new window opens up on its own asking if you wanna use the new map data available, right now or later. System restarts and it's good to go. Map version check - Navigation, options, software info. As seen in the picture,on the top is the full map installed (2018-1) and bellow is the updated version info (2019-2) |

Thanks Zuma for the info.
Dealer intalled via USB last year 2018-1. I only have CAN, AK 2018-3. Will talk to the dealer again. OTA does not appear to work on my car. |

I changed the language from French to English. Not sure if this is coincidence but I got 5 regional updates in the past 7-10 days I now have the same as you have. Do you know if they will also push the basic map to replace 2018-1. Running EVO here and found on the web that 2019-2 is now the most current version? Just curious

2018-1 with 2019-2 is the same as having 2019-2 installed via USB, as your base map. |

What that means is your Canada maps are updated however the maps for say border states like NY, Michigan, Pennsylvania etc assuming you are in Ontario are still 2018 and will never be updated via the over the air update. If you never leave Canada this may not be important for you to update. To update the base map which again is all of North America can be done via usb or when the dealer does a full software update to the car. |
