$10K used cars...what to get?

Looking for a $10K used car that's still under the factory warranty, so far the options that I've come across are:
'08 Hyundai Elantra
'08-'09 Hyundai Accent
'08-'09 Kia Spectra
'08 Scion xD
'08-'09 Nissan Versa sedan

I've driven each of those cars in the past and I'm having trouble narrowing it down. Which would you pick? Must have FWD, auto, and still be under warranty so I can buy an extended and have peace of mind. Most CPO cars don't have a bumper-to-bumper, so I don't think that route serves me. I have no req'ts around space, mpg, # doors, etc. but I do like hatchbacks.

Any cars I'm missing?

Hyundai has a 5-Year/60,000 power train warranty for used cars. That's better than most new cars.

Why not a used Camry? We've never had one go less than 250k and all my parents did was change the oil (never even did the scheduled maint.). My Pop's 4Runner just hit 306k with no major issues. Even a used Accord will be trouble free if it was taken decent care of. I'd personally rather have a nicer '06 than a cheapo '08.

If you are looking at Hyundai's, why not look at the '06-'10 style Sonata. Carmax has a number of them around $12k, which surely means that you could fine one elsewhere for close to $10k. I would guess it would be a decent step up from the Accent/Elantra. I think they have received decent reviews. I think most newer Hyundai's have a 5yr/60k mile bumper-to-bumper and a 10yr/100k miles powertrain warranty, which is quite good. (Actually that warranty on the new Sonata turbo is great... warrantying a turbocharged powertrain for 100k is pretty damn good).

Honda Fit?

Also..why do you need a warranty on those cars? They are VERY reliable, and IF they do break..not that expensive. Don't get hung up on the warranty. My Fit has 62k hard driven miles with zero issues.

Before I inherited, I had a used RX-8 that was 11k (that I made payments on) and I drove it for 35k miles with no issues (had 80k miles total). I'm just saying there's more fun choices for 10k than a tiny Hyundai. I work and go to school just like every other kid so suck my dick

I'll look into the Fit and the Sonata. I'm just a little nervous buying out of warranty cars b/c my supposedly reliable Maxima had 2 transmissions die over a course of 50k mi. I've heard of trans. issues on some Toyotas as well, so it makes me worry a little more. Everytime Mini has been brought up in threads ppl are pretty negative abt it b/c of reliability issues. I need something that'll last 100K+ mi w/o much work.

btw. just found out Hyundai's 10 yr warranty is only for the original owner. 2nd owners are covered for 5yr/60k mi.

I know they're at least below the industry average, if not worse. It's definitely a myth that they're reliable.

I've heard they start falling apart with minor issues here and there after a few years.

Apparently you also have the insecurity and maturity of a 15 yr old to go with your work and school.....

back to the OP's question, I would, like others, look into an accord, corolla, or such as they are super reliable, and to be honest, the last few accord models are pretty good looking.

I have a Hyundai Elantra and I'm happy with it. It is very reliable and easy to drive.

We've only owned manual trans Toyotas and every time the clutch lasted to 150-175k. The starter went on my fathers 4Runner at 280k (cheap fix). Other than that they've just changed the oil and driven the crap out of them and each of them drives about 30k a year. I would not ever hesitate to buy a Toyota or a Honda and I would buy any model of either make before looking at any Hyundai. You do NOT need a warranty for either brand. Nothing really goes wrong and if it does it's very cheap.

I guess I have a rare MCS then. 08' with 29k miles and not even a hicup. I mean nothing, nada, zilch. My first MINI but I think I am a customer for life. I really like it. Just don't plan on any road trips. Even a little 500 mile round tripper was brutal on my arse. I slapped some Eibachs on her so it is stiffer than stock which is already firm. Took the truck the next trip.

I don't want to say I dog the car but it is close. The rev limiter see it's share of action and my Yoko's up front are constantly squeeling. I hope I don't roll the little rascal.

She just got her free brake flush, oil/filter, cabin micro filter and wiper blades. I almost left with a black on black Countryman. Not a black guy but it looked pretty sweet. I gained my composure, snathced my keys and got the heck out of there.

My 335 on the other hand.. Biggest train wreck I have ever owned.

The scion XD, while rather uhm interesting...outside, is actually a very good hot rod Yaris (basically a yaris with the corolla's 1.8)

i enjoyed the scion a lot. it was even usable in winter

i had many hyundai accent/kia rio rentals. They are surprisingly good cars just rather small. But if you are OK with that, I'd probably go for the Accent. Mine even had a nice factory stereo with sat radio and everything.
