That adapter from Bimmertech is a weird material. Almost feels like wood.

I assumed it was 3D printed.

Another thing to note about the BimmerTech adapter for the 10.25" display is that it does not seat flat in vehicles like mine with the full leather dash. The left corner of the adapter jams against the leather. That said, the difference is barely noticeable.

BimmerTech really should make a version for vehicles with the full leather dash.

Just get the scaler unit as if anyone ever flashes your idrive you will loose the screen and need lots of reflashing here.

Can you code the MGU to display properly?

I have to agree. I showed my 2018 F82 with the G30 screen to some friends in Ireland and they all agree with these upgrades there is no point in changing away from the F82.

Good to know. I am going to try to reseat mine by loosing it and pushing it slightly away from the dash. I guessing that it moved toward the dash when I was tightening the screws. Either that or I need to widen the mounting holes to allow it to slide a bit. I will report back. Thanks.

No worries you have to just push it slightly and will fit ok

Confused by this. I have the IDrive updated to 6. I purchased the MGU display and expect to go to Bimmertech to have them code the display once I hook it up.

Is there something to be concerned with?

Any concerns this 3d printed plastic isn’t going to hold up in the sun and fade / crack prematurely? Good plastic resin contains chemicals to prevent this.

Nope. It's as simple as setting up the coding session and letting BimmerTech do it's thing. The session took nearly an hour (!), so be sure to have your battery on a charger. When BimmerTech was done, the display just worked.

Not in my experience. I have had the plastic piece installed for nearly a year now and it is in perfect condition, even after an entire summer in a convertible with the top down for much of that time. It has the look and feel of an OEM part.

I should have added that it has the look, feel and durability of an OEM part.

The SCALER display, however, should work with very easy coding. WhiteFox and kubax86 should be able to give you the correct settings to make the SCALER display work. Good luck!
So you have an NBT Evo that was originally ID4? How is it handling the higher resolution, as far as I know the HU will reboot sometimes due to running out of RAM in the standard nav, but you seem to be using the standard nav with no issues? I'm thinking of getting a 10.25" screen but not sure how well either will work with the NBT Evo 2.1 I think I have. I've found an MGU screen pretty cheap (~$140) so was thinking of going down that route.

I've just bought an MMI box and the seller told me I needed their regular NBT unit due to the voltage of the display - which is why I'm now not sure if either scaler or MGU units will work for me

MGU display will not work with the ID4 head unit. I replaced my ID4 head unit with an ID6 head unit I sourced from Straight Six Auto Parts. You definitely need to start with a replacement ID6 head unit to make the MGU display function.

kubax86 can code the head unit to work with your VIN. But Bimmer Tech will need to rewrite the head unit software to make it work with the MGU display.

Hope this clarifies things for you.

Happy to help. Definitely recommend you check out Straight Six Auto Parts for an OEM ID6 head unit. They are a certified BMW dismantler. https://www.bmwforparts.com

Ok you guys got me. Coding session schedule to get my idrive at the right level so I can do scaler version install. Have a scaler version screen coming from an M5 that was totaled. Just need to get the bracket ordered next.

I would if I was in the US.

I've got the MMI box with the stock 8.8" screen in now and I definitely miss the size of the 10" android screen i removed. now debating between just getting an x5/x6 10" screen and cutting it to fit, or going the entire way and doing an ID6 retrofit but that'd need a new MMI box too
