This is awesome that BMW offers this now. Especially pleased with the light gray calipers. Will look awesome with MG and black wheels. Only I'll paint the 'M' black. Now I'm not upset about passing on CCBs. I can do a retrofit with the gray calipers.

So who’s going to be first to do this retrofit?

The F8x platform comes with decent looking caliper front and rear albeit they’re a tad small based on appearance. It’s just the blue color doesn’t look appealing. Plus for those that track their cars, it turns green anyways so I wonder why they decided on blue and not red/yellow/grey like other OEM Brembos on other performance cars.

Depending on price Im doing it since as you stated, the stock calipers are too small and the blue color is atrocious on my BSM/SO F80

Never had any brake fade? The f80 brakes are good, but will 100% fade....

That has not been my experience. I have track pads I use for the track, and Castrol SRF fluid. Stock calipers. New Stoptech Aerohat rotors up front (same size as stock, replaced due to damaging the rotors by running pads completely out, totally my fault).

No fade at the track, and this includes tracks with long front straights (Miller in Utah, Pueblo Motorsports park) as well as shorter, tighter courses (La Junta, PPIR). The long courses included full on braking from ~160 mph down to about 60 mph going into turn 1.

Edit: PFC-08 front and back for track brakes

I use Pagid RS29 on an otherwise completely stock brake system. I do 16 to 20 track days per season and I have run track that can be pretty hard on brakes. I never had brake fade issues with my M4.

I just did pads on my '15 CCB car also as a preventative measure to minimize wear on the rotors.

I see you mention that you're still in warranty/maintenance - were your CCB pads covered by that? Mine were not. My mileage is about half of yours but track days about the same. I noticed after 5 days my pads still looked new. Then after a 2 day weekend the fronts looked like they lost half of their thickness - did the swap asap after that weekend.

My tech agreed after getting the pads off of the car - said rears were in good shape still but fronts were at or a little less than 50% left.

Had alignment done also, car now feels so much better. Alignment was definitely off, particularly rear toe (Thanks kerbing!).

If the kit is determined to be PnP, I'll pick up the steel rotors sometime before next year events start up and put my 24k mile CCB rotors in boxes for the future...

Currently have 15 f82 with CCBs and need to replace pads as they are at 50% wear. Rotors were just weighed and have 190grams (front) and 40g (rear) - so based on weight seem almost new. I've put on 40k miles and 8x track days but mostly in C group (just moved up to B).

Debating on what to do with '15 - keep and look at doing the m2 competition brake swap so I can go to track without worry of CCBs quickly going - or sell and look for a my18/19. Would be sweet if my19 offered the m2 comp brakes. Regardless going with std brakes and racing pads a better option for 2-4 HPDE weekends a year.

Still have 4mos left of original warranty/maint.

Hard to give up tz blue m4 for one of the base colors

I was pretty disappointed to have to "retire" early at my last event due to concern about pads/rotors.

Again hearing from bmw service who weighed the rotors they still have 190grams and 40 grams available in weight - which is about the same number when new. So it's a bit confusing getting different info from different sources. My instructor was saying that the rotors are on the way to being replaced. But the weigh says the that they have tons of life left.

Learning that the 19s won't offer individual colors until 1/19 (SOP) makes me think better to just hold onto my car. Wish it had zcp (it's a 15) but has all sorts of other goodies including 666wheels / m perf exhaust / cf parts.

I got a quote from usaa for 4yr/up to 100k miles, - $8500!!! Can't get a dealer to respond and provide the options from bmw.

What to do....hard to sell this baby and settle for one of the "regular" colors. But mixed info on brakes and 4mos of warranty left are looming....
I know the feeling of not needlessly wanting to part with a car that's still very nice, unique, and I'm sure somewhat sentimental in value.

Can you explain the USAA statement better? I don't understand the quote, 4 years, up to 100k miles and -8500 dollars - just lost a little bit here.

On the pads/rotors. Good job getting them weighed, but even that can be misleading due to pad material buildup and the low total wear margins. You do the pads early to avoid degradation of the rotor is my understanding - yes running costs are not low, but they're excellent brakes.

What made the instructor say you might need to do the rotors?

Also - Wondering what your pads looked like compared to new ones when the rotors were weighed - and how much track use?

It sounds like you did no notable wear to the rotors - if that's through half of the pads and 6 or 8 days, that's excellent to hear. This case would follow the logic of; do pads at 50% material to minimize rotor wear.

^^^those pads look to be well below 50%^^^

Generally, you should be looking at the thickness of the friction material (I.e. excluding the backing plate).

They offered a 3rd part called axiom which was a more reasonable $3500 with the same terms as the USAA warranty.

My instructor thought the pads were way below 50% but the reality is they are both right at 50%. He said the rotors look like the stress cracks are getting more pronounced but I've looked at others and they all look quite similar. I'm going to post my rotors and pads pics that I took just before my track wkd.

If I keep the car will get new pads very soon
Judging from the wear indicators on your rotors, they seem to be 50-60% worn. As for the pads, when the pad material thickness gets thinner than the backing plate is my personal threshold for replacing them. Some of your pads are nearing that.

Slightly off topic but your M4 is the perfect spec. Tanzanite, Comp and 6MT! Well done

Also, with regard to the talk around the servo's - I think that its not something to be concerned about as the servo is only changed if you have CCB's. These are regular iron rotors - so doubt the M2 comp will be getting a servo upgrade when spec'd with the 2NH package.

Unless I've missed some comms to that effect?

The piston sizes between the 6 pot / 4 pot and 4 pot / 2 pot is very similar as we have seen from info posted elsewhere by Racing Brake.

Master cylinders are also the same between cars with the 4 pots / 2 pots and the cars with the CCB's.

As soon as this kits released I’m fitting it to the F81
Apparently it’s not being released to early 2019 but I think sooner.

Why wait - Cotswolds quoting ~ £1370 all in for 400/380 discs and pads and are able to source them quickly from factory - you then need the CCB calipers....

is this everything you need?
only the discs and pads? Will the pads fit into the gold CCB calipers from the F8X? Are the sizes of the discs identical with the ceramics?

that would be the best retrofit for annoyed CCB owners.
