My bro had the M4, same mods as me. Has a 2015 Cayman S (non 718).

After driving his car, if I had to choose right now - I would gladly give up my M4 for his Cayman S. Its really not about HP at that point. Sure more is good - but man.....the way it handles, sounds and drives.....damn. Well worth it. He has a base model S with NO sport exhaust and NO PASM Sport suspension. Still is amazing. That darn 6 speed P-Car shift gate rocks.

I've test driven that car from the dealer many times....but when you have a time to get on a freeway and take some curves, rev that engine and DRIVE it.....makes a huge difference in understanding the car. If Porsche dealers weren't such D-bags about letting people actually DRIVE the darn Cayman they'd likely be selling more of them...lol.

When my M4 lease is up - I'm likely going to find a 2015 model OR even a base 718 will work. S, yeah sure if I can spec my exact one

I loved my 981 CS - but it really did need more power, or at least the chassis always seemed like it could handle a lot more. Again with my conspiracy theory, but this has been the Cayman's self-imposed achilles heel since the 987 came out.

Porsche just isn't going to allow it to trump the 911. Unfortunately...

That's because they WANT you to buy the 911.

Ever notice how the 911s outnumber Caymans at least 2 or 3 to 1 on a P car lot? It's no different than BMW keeping the supply of the M2 artificially low - they want us to buy M3 and M4s instead too.

I'm a power whore, too, usually lol.. I wasn't as extreme as some guys with the F80 but after doing JB4 on Map 2 I was like ok now I need more! When I wasn't even able to put the power down stock!

The Cayman is all fart and no turd until ~5k RPM and it's still slow by today's standards but it is fun. Plus, there's nothing short of sending my car to BGB for a 4.0L transplant that'll give my car proper power

That's why I feel the 718 S/GTS is great since it's fast enough and still handles amazingly.. I don't mind the sound either.

You are most likely right, I know I read it somewhere but can't find it and which model alludes me? The 991 makes more sense. In any event it was impressive move on Porsche's part to make such a big improvement over the previous engine location over such a small widow of time, I guess something that's very un-Porsche like and more so in small increments.

Your brother has a 981 S with the extra oomph which challenges the chassis. Sweet car by all accounts. Even though the base 718 may "outgun" it in the straights, certainly test drive the car before blindly falling in love with it. So much of the 981 praise (especially in S form) stems from the F6 N/A engine. Christ, I'm sounding like an E9x M3 owner .

I thought people opted for the 911 because of the (utterly useless) back seats

At least it has a backseat. I have a cubby in the front and rear space that is nearly useless.

The frunk has more storage space than many trunks.

It’s like Jeremy Clarkson said, you’d have to have a thin wife and kids to use the 911 as a daily driver.

I'm still holding out for the GT4RS. That would be THE car to get if they drop a 4.0 litre GT3 engine in it.

Or even just a "real" GT4, with a GT spec engine in it, and not a hand me down from the 911. Porsche can't do that anyway, after publicly stating that a turbo F6 would not fit in the 718.

Also, whether they make a GT4, GT4-RS, or both - I hope they put a PDK in there. Such a car would be so awesome...

I am sure there would be a period of time where the markups would be insane - but I wonder if it would last? I wonder if the interest would be as high or intense as it is for the GT3...there's no way I could ever get one, but it's fun to dream.

As much as I love and admire the GT4, but the current owners stated it reminds them of s2000. That concerns me a bit especially for the price.
