bootmod3: Map Switching (DEMO) - Advanced End User/Tuning Features (Part 2)

Hey guys, since our initial demo on map switching we've made great progress with further changes to how on the fly map switching works. Our previous thread here:

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1755987

In this video we're demoing an update for on the fly map switching where we've moved map switch controls to the steering wheel cruise buttons, and also the bootmod3 app in this case running on an iPhone 11 Pro. Status of the map is displayed on the dash cluster on the tach (RPM) gauge (1000rpm = map 1, 2000rpm = map2, 3000rpm = map3, 4000rpm = map4), as well as in the app on the new screen made for this purpose.

On the steering wheel, you activate it by pressing the Resume button, and switch among 4 map slots (expandable if needed at a future date) by using the up/down button that are typically used to increase/decrease speed when cruise control is active. OEM cruise control functionality remains in tact and map switching can be done with the engine off, on and while driving.

In the bootmod3 app, we've created a new screen to show current map slot and trigger on the fly map switching as well.

This video was done on our 2015 F80 M3 with the MEVD17.2.G DME and applies to all S55 engine vehicles. Support for these features is in progress for all other vehicle models bootmod3 supports today.

Enjoy the vid while we continue making progress with many other advanced tuning features such as BM3 FlexFuel, Antilag and many others.

Really looking forward to this. It will help so much with testing various setups without having to downloads maps the whole time.

Hey!

Halim, Milan, Zanin, Dzenan... Et. al. Great Work!

Excellent idea in using the Cruise Control switches!!

This was asked but, just to make sure...

I noticed in the video that you had a connection on the phone. Do you need to be connected
(to the internet - BM3 / OBDII) for this to work Or are the maps initially downloaded (flashed)
to the cars ECU and can be used anytime, at will as indicated?

Also, In the video you mention, "... I also set the sport display to (Hp.?) 720... 480"

How is this done - Is it part of this feature? And, How does it apply (purpose) to the maps??

Cheers!

Interested, especially since I just purchased your stage 2 e30 map on Sat.

Are you guys working on a rolling anti-lag solution?

So far so good, a few part throttle/jerking issues in 1st gear, but I'm going to play around with the different maps to see if it improves it or if it's due to something else.

Reduce boost 20% in 1st and 10% in 2nd at the map config screen and that will fix the jerking!

They recommend resetting adaptations in this case under the Diagnostics screen. Worked for me.

When do you think BM3 will release this feature on the f8x platform?

I'm a little new to this "tune" thing so, be gentle...

What exactly are "adaptations" and how are they, reset?

Cheers!

On the "Diagnostics" tab you will see a button "Reset Adaptations". There are things that the computer learns from the driver, like how we use the pedal to request load from the engine and trans, how air flows in and exhaust out, and other bits used for logic decisions. Many affect how the DCT shifts and how power ramps up. Exactly what adaptations are learned and used is determined by the tune's programmer (confirmed by Cary).

There is no "bad side" to resetting adaptations, especially when trying to fix something thats acting weird.

Great, Thanks!

Does this need to be done:

* When you first install "BM3" or
* Do you wait a (+-) month for it to learn or
* When you change maps or,
* Only when something goes wrong?

Thanks again!
