Do people really cross shop these? I mean I would LOVE and am planning on getting into the new m3 in a couple of years. It's I think the only car within this price range I'd consider. The Mustang would never even come remotely close to my list of cars. Perhaps it's just me. Perhaps a vote should be set up to see how many would cross-shop a mustang and an m4?

The old 5.0 compares really well with the old m3 while being around the price of a well equipped 335. Now when you go to dealerships they have 335 f30s that cost 70 grand then add their 5 thousand dollar premium. The heck. The new m is probably going to be a good 100k which is around the gtr price. The new gt350/Mach 1 is going to be cheaper than some 335s. I don't get what BMW is thinking. Why would I but a 100k on an m3 for performance when I could get a GTR for a tiny bit more?

What I get out of many of these comments is that a guys identity, self image or what have you is mistakenly wrapped into the logo on their car.

I just turned 23 last month. I drive a 335i. My dad drives a gl550. My dad owns a business and 8 houses. I own my own 7-Eleven.

By looking at all that I think I could afford an m3. My next car choices are a ZR1,2016 C63 ( or when ever the next gen one comes out), and a Mustang.

You should stop doubting things lol

I went from an e92 M3 to an F10 M5 and have a 14 GT500. The interior is cheap but man, it's such a fun car that feels like it actually has 662hp. It's insane and makes my other cars feel as if something is wrong with them after driving the mustang. I'm actually concerned that they will tame this newer one too much and take the fun out of it.

Are you living under a rock???

Some of the best handling track cars are "muscle cars".

I'm a chevy guy but I can't wait to check out one of these new mustangs!!!

I don't think there is much to complain about with this thing. Unless you are an E92M3 owner that has a problem with a much cheaper car keeping up with you.

Looks good, and will hang against E9x or F8x M3 around the track, mark my words!

But gawd, that terrible interior!

The numbers might be close but the experience will never be the same,
Do I ever compare a 911 to a E92/E90 M3?
No, because the driving feel/experience is totally different.

Actually, the people that can more than afford an M3/4 will be shopping the new Mustang. The ones that need leases to keep up appearances, probably not so much.

But that's how the rich get richer. They shop around, whether it's a car or a TV.

While an M badge is nice. It ultimately means nothing to this crowd. For those that can't actually afford the car, it means everything.

Bear in mind that there's a LOT more to handling than skidpad numbers and lap times, I've driven every year of the fifth gen Mustang (2005-2013) and pretty much every engine they offer (3.7 V6, 4.6 V8, 5.0 V8, a couple of the earlier GT500s) and they all have basically the same handling characteristics; very lazy steering with almost no feel, very soft springs and dampers, tons of rubber in the suspension, etc. They're just sloppy cars, you can throw them into a corner and they will generate enough grip to go through very quickly but you don't feel the road at all and can't really tell how close you are to the limit. That live rear axle (which is gone now) isn't as bad as some say but it still has some very annoying characteristics, chief among them is the huge weight of the rear diff and axle hanging off of the suspension which means that even though the suspension is very soft, it still crashes and makes the body wobble when you hit a bump and hitting a bump mid-corner makes the whole car bounce. The earlier fifth gen GTs with the 4.6 were worse than the 5.0s, in the last few years Ford started offering the track pack and a couple other options that went a long way towards improving the way the Mustang drove. The 2013 GT Track Pack I drove was pretty good as long as the road was fairly smooth.

They're definitely not bad cars, I think the current 5.0 GT is one of the most fun cars you can get for the money and the motor is just epic but it has some serious handling issues. It looks like Ford is very serious with this new car, though. I can't wait to try it out.
I swear it's as though you have never seen this test:

I own an E92 M3, and I love it, but I'm realistic when I say the Mustang GT is on par with performance against the M3. The only thing I wish the Mustang had was a DCT. I've driven the new 2014 Mustang. It doesn't quite have the tight finesse in the steering, but that's a minor fault.
I'm not talking about how fast the Mustang is, I'm using the term handling in reference to steering precision and feel, spring/damper tuning, the effects of the heavy rear axle and diff acting as unsprung weight, etc. things you have to sit inside the car to feel and I've driven at least a dozen 2005+ Mustangs, sometimes very hard, so I speak from my personal experience.

Did you notice that the guy who actually owned a 2011 GT agreed with my assessment of the fifth gen's handling?

Anyways this is all pointless now, the new car has totally different suspension geometry front and rear (the big news is IRS out back but don't forget it's also getting MacPherson struts in front like a BMW) and a totally different chassis so nothing I'm talking about will carry over to this new car.

So your critique ultimately boiled down to your subjective opinion on "feel" and not on actual performance or ability to keep up on a track. Got it.

May I interest you in a 1973 911 RS?

Or perhaps a 1990 Miata?

Both of those offer world-leveling degrees of "feel" compared to a modern BMW 3-series.

Loving the new Mustang styling esp the Fastback rear!!!!

The problem is the CHEAP interior is a big turnoff as well as the overall POOR build quality.

Look at those huge panels gaps and cheap plastics.

Lets compare the interiors of both the BMW F30 and the new Mustang

Do most of you complaining about the interior really think that BMW F30 interior looks better then the new Mustang interior? The M3/M4 interior will be identical to that 3 series interior besides different trim offerings and different steering wheel and seats.
