Howdy y'all. Mark here. A month ago I bid and won a 2017 M3 with 22,400 miles on the clock. Winning bid was 23,700 but after all the fees and shipping it across the country it staggered up to right around 30k. I was still pumped with the purchase seeing as it was only cosmetic damage on the front end....so I thought. Turns out the engine cooler was broken and leaked and ran without oil leading to, you guessed it...SPUN CRANK HUB. Out of time and fucked . It is beyond repair as there was less than half a quart of oil left in the pan so they really ran her dry. This is my 12th auction car and you think you'd know what to look out for by now but, you live and you learn. Anyone with any help or leads would be greatly appreciated!

Also here's a link to the vehicle if any of you are interested in scoping it out:

How did you get from 23k to 30k?

Sucks to hear. Good luck with the search.

The copart listing says the car runs and drives. Can't you call them out on that?

Parting out may be a better option.

You spent close to half that car's msrp and it doesn't have a front end or an engine, as @darrenm4 said, I would consider selling it and using the money for another car - unless this is a project to you and money isn't much of an issue. Hopefully you can get good deals on the parts you need to replace

This is the kind of car where you'll rebuild it for the price of a good quality used one, and still have extremely diminished resale value, imo.

Just something to think about, but I'm sure you have an idea of whats best and are aware of this already

There's a local shop by me called M parts world wide that parts out a lot of cars. I copied the link for an s55 I believe they still have available you might be able to arrange shipping to you through them. I hope this helps.

I did a quick search on that online auction site we all know and love and I was surprised by how many options there were on there. Definitely worth looking at.

No it's sold "as is" like mentioned at the bottom of the disclaimer.

Bumping this thread to see if anyone knows of a reputable shop in California who would be able to possibly rebuild this engine and has a machine shop to do all the work as well. SoCal is full of lots of shady shops who are capitalizing off of these s55 failures and running games! I just want to drive the car lol its been sitting over a year and have been dicked around by countless shops who just want me to give them 20k to change the engine. If anyone also has seen any good S55 engines on here for sale please link me! I will definitely pay a finders fee for any help. Appreciate any help from ya'll in advance!

Thanks for the recommendation, I already had contacted them yesterday and they currently do not have anything in stock but told me to check back in 1-2 weeks so keeping my fingers crossed as that is relatively local to me. Thanks again for the help👍

Try car-part.com NOT carpart.com I found out about them by business owner who rebuilds salvage cars. They even have an app you can download. I purchased a 2016 435i M sport with 50 thousand miles that is pretty much fully loaded from IAA in July and finished rebuilding it in the beginning of September. I am just now waiting on the TX rebuilt title to come in then I'm putting it up for sale. You can find pretty much every major OEM part you need in various quality grades. One thing I learned is to always get an inspection done about a week prior to the auction date if you can't check out the vehicle in person which can help prevent these types of costly issues. I paid $155 to get the inspection done and I would say it's worth it. The only thing is the quality of the inspection all depends on the inspector some are more thorough than others. I just checked and there are various S55 engines for sale throughout the nation on there. Just in case you were wondering straight six auto parts posted and S55 engine from an M4 with 49 thousand miles for $9000 and they listed it as a grade A but there are various other listings on there to look at as well. Hope this helps out man take care.

If all goes good would gladly give you a finders fee thanks again!
