2015 Mustang benchmarked against outgoing M3. Already trailing the upcoming M4?

Do people really cross shop these? I mean I would LOVE and am planning on getting into the new m3 in a couple of years. It's I think the only car within this price range I'd consider. The Mustang would never even come remotely close to my list of cars. Perhaps it's just me. Perhaps a vote should be set up to see how many would cross-shop a mustang and an m4?

The old 5.0 compares really well with the old m3 while being around the price of a well equipped 335. Now when you go to dealerships they have 335 f30s that cost 70 grand then add their 5 thousand dollar premium. The heck. The new m is probably going to be a good 100k which is around the gtr price. The new gt350/Mach 1 is going to be cheaper than some 335s. I don't get what BMW is thinking. Why would I but a 100k on an m3 for performance when I could get a GTR for a tiny bit more?

What I get out of many of these comments is that a guys identity, self image or what have you is mistakenly wrapped into the logo on their car.

I just turned 23 last month. I drive a 335i. My dad drives a gl550. My dad owns a business and 8 houses. I own my own 7-Eleven.

By looking at all that I think I could afford an m3. My next car choices are a ZR1,2016 C63 ( or when ever the next gen one comes out), and a Mustang.

I went from an e92 M3 to an F10 M5 and have a 14 GT500. The interior is cheap but man, it's such a fun car that feels like it actually has 662hp. It's insane and makes my other cars feel as if something is wrong with them after driving the mustang. I'm actually concerned that they will tame this newer one too much and take the fun out of it.

Some of the best handling track cars are "muscle cars".

I'm a chevy guy but I can't wait to check out one of these new mustangs!!!

Actually, the people that can more than afford an M3/4 will be shopping the new Mustang. The ones that need leases to keep up appearances, probably not so much.

But that's how the rich get richer. They shop around, whether it's a car or a TV.

While an M badge is nice. It ultimately means nothing to this crowd. For those that can't actually afford the car, it means everything.

So your critique ultimately boiled down to your subjective opinion on "feel" and not on actual performance or ability to keep up on a track. Got it.

May I interest you in a 1973 911 RS?

Or perhaps a 1990 Miata?

Both of those offer world-leveling degrees of "feel" compared to a modern BMW 3-series.

The problem is the CHEAP interior is a big turnoff as well as the overall POOR build quality.

Look at those huge panels gaps and cheap plastics.

Lets compare the interiors of both the BMW F30 and the new Mustang





Do most of you complaining about the interior really think that BMW F30 interior looks better then the new Mustang interior? The M3/M4 interior will be identical to that 3 series interior besides different trim offerings and different steering wheel and seats.
