Lightbulb F80 M3 Crashes at the Nurburgring. Provides Peek at Production Seats

F80 M3 Crashes at the Nurburgring. Provides Peek at Production Seats

COMMENTS

Today's tests at the Nurburgring were stopped by a BMW F80 M3 crash ten minutes before the end of the session. The accident occurred at a section called "Metzgesfeld" where the driver lost control and crashed into the right guide rail.

Fortunately, the test driver is OK and was only fitted with a neck collar. The F80 M3 prototype was transported back to the BMW technical center at the Ring.

Unfortunate that this happened, but it gives us more looks at the advanced M3 and M4 prototypes and a peek at what appears to one-piece sports seats, different than the ones in the prototype M3/M4 we rode in recently (compare).

Could these one-piece seats also possibly have carbon fiber backs as the ones which appeared in this earlier spotted prototype?

I love how they are still pounding it around the ring and the car is so close to production.

Hmmm, doesnt look like the seats have adjustable head rests. Will make tracking the car with helmets tough.

Tough loving. You need to rough up a few. This is not a corolla.

Being pre production, those cars were probably gonna end up being crushed/destroyed anyways. Vids of the crash should surface soon I bet.

Depends on the seat. Porsche carbon sport buckets, 996GT3 one piece, and Lotus fixed backed seats are great.

What are they like for regular street driving? I find the two things to be mutually exclusive.

The carbon GT2 buckets in my RS are more comfortable than one would expect, however ingress/egress is a hassle as a DD. Buckets sit you more upright, not for everyone, women in general HATE them.

Glad the driver was alright.

Wonder how fast he was going. Like to see the damaged side and how it held up.

Hoping for a modern version of the E36 "Vader" seats. One of best M-seats ever.

They look to have a C63 seat look (built in headrest).

I guess when you push the limits, sometimes you go beyond the limits and crash. It's pretty exciting in a way that the test drivers go this far.

I agree, it will feel strange if that headrest pushes your helmet forward, heres hoping theres a CF seat with a flat back like pole positions...for me it would be the icing on the cake having to not change seats in an M track car
