Darn. Holding off as much as I can lowering the car. i love the feel/handling of the car (my m4) but can't stand the wheel gap. I feel that getting springs or coilovers will ruin the handling of what is already a tuned suspension car.

What convinced me to go with 18" wheels (along with passive shocks). Too good not to be in this thread!

I was actually going to post this too. I absolutely love how the finish looks with YMB.

Shame that not many people are running 18s. Ive yet to see a modded/lowered M3/4 on 18s in real life

Woops, I see it on the list now. Last question, what size tires were you running? Car looks great!

I saw this set up in person at a carmeet we did, his car looks real good and it's a lighter set up than the factory 18s. Makes me want to switch back over to 18s from my vorsteiner set up.

I guess here's my thing about going back and forth with 18s. They look GREAT if you are lowered on coilovers. But if you just drop on springs, there's still a pretty decent wheel gap, which in my opinion makes the rim look smaller than they really are if that makes any sense.

I'm just not sure I want to run coilovers right from the very beginning.

I completely agree with you, I was lowered on springs with the factory 18s and felt the wheel gap was still there and made the wheels look small. I then went 19s and kept the lowering springs and felt it still didn't look right so I switched over to coilovers and am real happy with the ride height and feel. Now if I go back to 18s I know it will look good this time around with some meaty tires. Just got to make the right choice from the beginning or you will end up spending money that you don't need to.

That is great feedback, thank you. We don't have any modded M3/4's around here so I have no idea. From the pictures, the stock 19s look pretty great with Swift springs and spacers. So do the 18s.

What springs did you have? I noticed stock 18s with Eibachs don't look that low at all.

I had the H&R springs which lower the car slightly more than Eibachs, I think at that moment meatier front tires with the lowering springs and stock 18s would have looked slightly better than the stock rubber. But the adjustability of the coilovers in height is great, an individual can tailor it to their particular taste in ride height. Wider 18 inch aftermarket wheels front and back is the way to go if wanting to stay with 18s in my opinion, look at Sam from modecarbon's car, it looks beastly with the wheels.
Edit- if you go to page one of this thread you can see my car on 18s with H&R springs on a side profile picture. Well there are 2 pictures actually.

Ironically, they look awesome there. I guess the best course of action is just to wait and see it in real life when I get the car in a year. Thanks for your help, it's been very helpful!

No problem, and yes you will be in love seeing it in stock form. Makes it easier to decide what to do once the car is sitting in your garage

What tire sizes are you guys replacing the oem rear tires with? 275/40/18 is a very uncommon size. There are very few sticky tires that will come in this size.

Thanks! To speak to your seeing the setup in person comment- I actually think 18" wheels look better in person. The car tends to have a very purposeful stance, and a very sporting feel, in my eyes.
