255/35/19 with 285/35/19 traction control issues
Hello all,
Recently started having issues with tcs being so intrusive after new tires on the rear. Have the factory conti 255/35/19 up front and then needed new rear tires (437m), so got a set of federal evoluzion st-1 factory spec 275/35/19 and they were much better grip wise and traction vs the conti. Issue was when taking an on ramp or long sweeping turns at low speed, the tcs would keep going on and freaking out. Never had this issue before. This was still the case after breaking them in for about 300 miles. Thought there was something wrong with the tires, so I got indy 500s 285/35/19 and same issue. Can't figure out what is causing it. Maybe the front needs to go up to 265/35? Any input would be appreciated |

You changed the ratio of front to back, it makes the TCS freak out because now the rear tires rotate slower than the fronts.

But it was still 275/35 before and it still did it? That was same as oem continental size. That's why I don't get it, should be same ratio

While the 255/275-35-19s F/R should not give you traction control issues, if your 255s up front are old and worn and your 275s out back are brand new, that could have enough of a height difference to cause TCS interventions.
Also, the Federal 275 rears you got may also have been taller than the stock continental 275s. Different manufacturer's tires are not made to identical heights, widths, etc. They are all slightly different. I've tried 255/285-35-19 F/R PSS F and PS4S R and had TCS interventions occasionally - maybe once every 500-1000 miles. Switching to 265-35-19 PS4S to match the rear 285-35-19 PS4S completely eliminated all TCS interventions. I'd also recommend sticking w/ high quality tires like Michelin. They are worth the added cost IMO. They have excellent ride and handling and last a fairly long time as well considering their excellent performance. |
