Question on my new M4

Ok just picked up new M4 12/4/19, I had a 2016 M4 and the first thing I notice under the hood was the felt liner was not there, my old car had one.. But my new 2020 does not. I ask my salesman and he said they don't put them on the car anymore?

Do you guys know, anybody with a 2020 ? Do you have it?

BTW he is a quick pic, I'll get more this week. I got the windows tinted and the markers blacked out.

What felt liner? I don’t recall ever seeing one on my 2016 M4.

The M cars don't come with a felt liner and I wouldn't bother getting one, once you get going you can't hear the engine noise over the exhaust anyways

BMW stopped using under hood sound insulation for the 3 Series somewhere in the middle of the E9x model run. My wife had a 2011 335is Coupe and that didn't have the insulation, neither does my 2016 M4 or her 2018 M3. I'm pretty sure that your 2016 M4 didn't have it either.

There were threads in the E9x forum where people started noticing that they didn't have the sound insulation on their cars, but others did. People were sharing part numbers and buying the insulation to install themselves.

Nice car man. I'm on the same path as you to blacking everything out. Got the side vents on the way, the grille surround done and the reflectors are next. Love the 666 rims too - when my tires go out, I'll look to switch to something like that.

I talked with my Service Adviser and he said they did have the liner but he don’t remember when they stopped doing it, he thinks about 2016 or 2017 wasn’t sure, but he said it was heat related is why they stopped putting them in.

So for a while there I thought I was losing my mind, but I knew my 2016 M4 had it.

Ok thanks so much that clears that up..Thanks for posting it.

Now we can all move on to the next debate? LOL some of these threads go on and on and on and on.. I just have to laugh, very entertaining...

The next problem I have is my new M seams like it only getting about 9 mpg.
But I noticed that I only use one foot I get about 18mpg ,,but I’m using both feet on that right pedal gets about 9mpg ,,,
I’m not sure the difference maybe somebody can help.

Lol I love these threads. You see people swearing that something existed with others claiming it's not possible. Anyone want to start the Berenstein vs Berenstain thread?

It sad to say, but I would not rely on your service adviser, they aren't that knowledgable, particularly when it comes to ///M cars. The underhood liner found in the base 3 (and 4) series has not been present on the M3 (and 4) since the E9X generation.

Felt liners and fuel economy

I own a 2009 E92 328i and 2015 F82 M4 and neither has a felt liner.

Mileage is directly related to your right foot.

During two trips to look at and buy my M4, I got 8.07 litres per 100 km in the E92 and two weeks later got 8.07 litres per 100 km in the M4.

So as far as highway mileage goes, they were identical.

P.S.

Congrats on a great looking car. Love the black sapphire and looking forward to seeing your mods.

What % of tint did you pick because it matches the car perfectly? We're allowed a max of 40% here in Ontario, I'm thinking of opting for 35% which should be similar to my E92.

The tint is 38% that’s the legal limit in Kansas.
The weather is overcast the last few days but I’ll get some better pics later.

As far as the MPG goes I was just poking fun.. ,

Can I ask, where did you purchase blacked out vents? I can't find anything without lettering on them.

Do not have it. Neither does anyone else, unless you installed one yourself. Did you really think my M3/4 knowledge was that pitiful??
