So let's focus on the adjective: obsolete. In the context of a piece of technology, I would think the proper definition is that it means no longer of use or relevance in the current era. For instance, Oxford defines it as "No longer produced or used; out of date:" Merriam-Webster would say "no longer in use or no longer useful" Clearly that word on its own can't apply to an existing 2015/2016 F8X. As long as the car runs, it is still useful. Ok, so then lets look to your second word: essentially This is your attempt to 'hedge' your comment. But to see if it helps, in the case of a car, we would have to ask ourselves 'what are the essential elements of a 'car' that make it useful or not in the current era?' I mean, it is a piece of transportation that gets me (relatively easily) from A to B done by using some sort of mechanical engine. I guess it would be 'essentially' obsolete if it did not do that anymore OR if it only did so with great difficulty or inconvenience such that it was, for all practical purposes, of very little use. For instance, if it ran on a type of fuel no longer in existence, or you couldn't buy parts or products for it....then it would be essentially obsolete. A Model T is almost certainly obsolete (essentially and otherwise). As is an Opel GT. My old 1988 Pontiac firefly....not entirely obsolete, but maybe essentially? But a car that is 18 months from first delivery.....? It is the same car, but for a few features that are different from the base model. As Dinh335 notes, there are lots of options from the base model that make each of our cars unique (executive package, technology package, whatever) - the fact your car may lack HUD doesn't make it 'obsolete' it just makes it different. Look, you seem really put off that the car is tweaked and improved over time. Maybe it is the first time you have ever bought a technological good, I dunno. If it is, well, newsflash champ: this is going to happen every time. The way technology works is that people keep improving it and releasing new and improved versions. Sometimes those improvements are major. Sometimes they are minor. But you can't get your knickers in a knot every time it happens....or you are going to have a helluva time trying to untie your undies at some point because it aint never gonna stop.

Wow this thread has really gone off the rails, haha.
Can someone catch me up? I see that 1) our cars are obsolete now and 2) a retrofit option is coming?

True, but they didn't reach our hands until July/Aug. I think most of us are using the time frame that we actually received the cars (..or that they were available on dealership lots) as a measure of how long the cars have been available.

Usually people complain it is too taught and jarring. This is one of the things I am most curious about with the CP. Is what the reviews of how the new suspension feels during DD. Next is the DSC/MDM and e-diff changes. Last edited by minn19; 01-15-2016 at 11:39 AM.. |

True, I got my M4 in August 2014. I don't feel slighted by BMW for the ZCP release at all and I am a much, much earlier adopter than the dude who is upset. Also, I am sure that my M4 is nowhere close to obsolete - not even essentially close.

Yeah, his description surprises me too. Maybe he's used to riding in a Red Flyer wagon with hard plastic wheels/tires along cracked urban sidewalks. Coming from that, I suppose anything will feel like it exhibits "way too much vertical motion and floatiness, and sloppy low speed rebound dampening (not damping)".

What is the benefit of the cut-outs anyway? Please don't tell me weight savings. I've two car seats in the back of my M3 and can totally see kids trying to poke mommy/daddy through the cut-outs lol. Plus how comfortable are these cut-out seats on a 6-8 hour drive, which I often make in my M3 to various places for various reasons? |

Wow wow wow. Thank you so much!! This is my new background now.
Just depressing that I'll have to drop over $10k on top of a base M3 to make this photoshop come to life

Well $5k for Individual, and another $5.5k for ZCP
I guess if the ZCP doesn't make a huge difference, I guess I could live with an "obsolete" MY17 green F80 Guess we'll see

$10k would be a good deal!! With $5k for paint, and $8k for brakes, and $5.5k for ZCP, you are talking $18.5k on top of a base M3 - unless you also want DCT, Exec package, ...........

I'm tapped out. Thank goodness I actually want cloth seats, as adding full leather would absolutely destroy my budget even more. Keep in mind when this journey started, I wanted a stripper M2
