Does your 6MT have different moods?

Does anyone out there feel their 6 speed F8x has its own mood? Sometimes it runs very smooth and sometimes runs so rough.

Mine runs much smoother without the a/c on, other than that it seems to be fairly consistent. Unfortunately I live in Houston and have to run the a/c at least half the year.

Ya AC might be one of the reason

I notice that sometimes. I don't think its the AC but it is linked to that.... Its the outside air temp and humidity. The car (new engine) loves cool non humid air. On a cool night or cool morning the car is a completely different animal. On a hot humid 95 degree day it def looses something. I'm not sure I would call it smoothness but it just drags a bit. I have noticed this difference with other good cars too. Some cars you get in and don't pay attention to. Get in any good high performance car and you are (I am at least) more in tune with the cars every move.... and you notice these things.

This "mood" is mostly about the transmission from my experience. I had other 6 speed car before and I notice the same thing

My 6 MT transmission runs well 100% of the time regardless of conditions. The engine OTOH runs the best in cool, dry, dense winter air.

Yah it sure feels that way. All i can say is it was rough the first 4000 miles but now it loosened up and feels smooth most of the time.

Gear oil thins as it heats. That's it. The engine performs differently based on temperature. Colder air is denser and contains more oxygen, and adaptive engines can adjust by mixing more fuel to take advantage of this to make more power.

Mine seemed moody only about once a month. I put some ethanol with prozac additive in at the pump, seemed to help quite a bit.

Yes. Thought I was the only one who thought so. Most of the week it's smooth as butter. Other times, it takes more finess to drop into second gear smoothly. It also has excessive clutch rattle in certain situations, mostly when the car is at an incline. Still love having the manual though, even in this terrible dc traffic. Btw, I'm at 3k miles.

Usually when my 6MT feels a little laggy I have to look down to confirm that it's a) nannies off and b) sport plus mode. I continue to see many people here who fail to understand how much power is cut by the traction control system. Even MDM.

There is definitely a moodyness about 1st -> 2nd gear smoothness. I realize there are a million factors (shoes, temperature, humidity, oil levels, pressure, etc) but I would say every so often it isn't as easy to drop in.

To be honest I find that sometimes the revs drop significantly faster than others after an upshift?!? Maybe its the caffeine in the morning or the wine in the evening, but I think that has a big influence on the "ease of upshifting" especially from 1st -> 2nd where the RPM gap is bigger.

I've noticed this as well, and it is almost always relatively hot and humid where I live. The car being warm makes a big difference, both in smoothness of the engine and the gear lever. The car also like being revved far more than lugged; I cannot imagine driving in the computer's suggested gears -- obviously mileage motivated -- because the engine simply would be lugging all the time. Then the car has less pop than a Honda Civic and sounds rougher and generally less happy. Keep the revs higher, though, and the thing seems just all around smoother (and happier).

I definetly feel that my 6MT feels different .It is alot smoother during the summer days compared to winter. Usually its a bit more notchy before the car fully warms up. When i drive the car hard for a few mins, it feels butter smooth after. But there have been days when it just did not feel right.

I am at 2700 miles and yes its moody depending on temp and nanny systems. But I just did an autocross day on Sunday and it feels like I was using an adaptive transmission like the DCT this morning the shifts where perfect. Does it has adaptive memory or it is just a result from the manhandling of the weekend? Any guys that have track experience have the same results?

I have not noticed this. But F80 MT is much smoother than that in my M5 or Z4M coupe, so I may not have noticed, ha ha. But it does seem very consistent to me.
