Replace my 2019 F80 competition with G20 340i
Hello from Sunny South Africa!
I have a 2019 Mineral White Fully loaded F80 with 16000km, considering a change to a 2021 g20 M340i. Getting a great price on the M3 and the G20, Daily drive, but a bit harsh in traffic ….any views will be welcomed (the G80 isn’t to my taste) |

Handling is day and night different, anyone who thinks they're close is psycho I've driven both extensively.
But I drive my cars on the street hard af (not in ways dangerous to others) so maybe some of you tamed or older guys guys may actually not notice a huge difference. But when you're ripping down a highway ramp, the F8x and m340 aren't even close in terms of capability & feel. If 90%+ of the time you're not having fun though the m340 makes more sense, it feels a lot newer and nicer than the 2015-2020 M3/M4 |

I had the previous generation 340i ; initially as a daily with a E46 M3 @ weekends / road trips.
For six months , I only had the 340i , until I got my E92M3 , and boy did I miss having a M car. And that’s with most of my driving ,as it was Autumn/ Winter ,being mundane. The G20 series is great and greatest with a B58 , but I’d think seriously about giving up on M ownership for , comparatively , an “ordinary” car. You may well regret it. |

Get the CS damper coding and GTS trans flash. Makes it much more livable as a daily.

i would try getting a 19 or 18 inch wheel. it won't look as good but your ride quality will be improved alot.
the 340 cars are fine for daily driving. But if you ever want to push the car they kinda fall on their face.

M3 is the better car by far and will also retain its value much better over the long term.
Its not great in traffic, maybe get cheap daily. Cars like F80 don’t exist any more, i would not sell it. |

Dealership tried to get me into a G20 M340 when they were replacing my X3m40 under warranty and whilst it was a nice car it was pretty small inside and didn't feel special at all. Funnily enough i feel like there is much more space and the boot (trunk) is bigger in my F80. The F80 is my daily now and the DCT would be fine in traffic commutes.
food for thought: in 2/3 years time the market will be flooded with M340's the value will plummet and make it harder to sell. F80 will always be special, sought after and will hold its value better as its already had the peak of depreciation curve. |

The M340i is great as a potent daily, but it lacks the visceral punch of the F80.

a) for really bad traffic that i'd have to daily in and dct would be brutal. -And- b) if the maintenance/depreciation cost are starting to significantly outweigh the value of your car (or your tired of paying alot more in insurance bills ect). I think if you move to a g-series 340i for something other than that, even an msport model, you will regret that decision in a number of months and want your f80 back. Still do what you think is right. (if I was you I would buy an older 3 series from like 2015+, and daily that around and still keep your m3 if that is at all a viable finical option. Goodluck)

Model 3's are hard to beat for daily driving enjoyment, comfort and technology. And if you still want speed, Model 3 Performance will embarrass both the M3 and the M340i. Do yourself a favor, and test drive a TM3. HTH, a

I came from a mppsk 340 to the f80 and could'nt be happier. I think the 340i may be the car for you if you have the opposite mindset as me.
I just thought that the 340 wasn't special and driving the F80 has proven that. Quote:

I just did this exact swap: 2018 6MT for 2022 M340 AWD. While I love the looks of the F80 I was not a fan of:
-Too stiff suspension -Annoying drone on the highway -Awful exhaust note -Horrible electric steering -Couldn't put the power down with rear wheel drive M340 is as close to the old BMW feel as you will get. I'm giddy every time I drive it. It definitely feels faster than the F80 and with all wheel drive you can actually put all the power down. Seats are far more comfortable and it's a bit larger interior. Just enough to make it much more comfortable in the back seat. The sound of the B58 in my opinion is far superior to the F80. If you want to hit the track, keep the F80 otherwise do the switch. You will not be sorry! |
