Is this a real M4CS at CarMax?

https://www.carmax.com/car/20448719

I think they may have sold the headlights and taillights and put regular LCI ones? If so, thats crazy!

HA! Saw the link and your post. jeez. I really feel bad for the people that are not in the know.

Makes me scared to buy anything from a used car dealer now esp if I don't really brush up on studying the specific car beforehand. I guess thats why they say caveat emptor.

Stay very far away from that one lol

It reminds me of the dealership that was selling the GTS without a bunch of GTS specific parts. The seller to the dealer even came on that thread and admitted that he even took out the water injection system (even today this strikes me as a safety issue)!

Shady AF selling these cars like this

So who is responsible at the end for something shady like this? The dealer for not originally doing the research or the individual that agrees to buy it like this?

I've always been curious about this - my gut says that on the "buy as is" technicality an unassuming customer would be SOL. Maybe a mitigating circumstance that could give the customer some legs could be that it was expressly advertised as an OE car? Not sure though. In that GTS thread, apparently the original seller made the dealer aware that all those pieces were no longer with the car and the dealer still took it at listed it at market value

Only 3 things are guaranteed in life: 1. Death 2. Taxes 3. Car dealers stay shady

I am surprised they didn't swap out the carbon fiber hood.

Oh man not again. Let's not forget that CarMax had blue M with a red trunk lid. They also always get the options wrong.

Used to work there in purchasing. It would fall on the buyer/CarMax as once we bought the car... it was ours.

Can you elaborate? I'm not sure I understood your answer. Do you mean "buyer" as in the dealer that bought the car or the Buyer of the vehicle from the original Seller?

I'll take a jab at it...

Buyer being Carmax; not who sold the car to Carmax.

Once carmax certifies a car for retail sale they offer warranty etc.

I will say the buyers are trained extremely well.

I've seen them uncover a lot of hidden damage that did not show on car fake report.

I sold cars at Carmax part-time. It was a fun job.

Yeah, I got sucked into the attached thread from last May and read all 15+ last night. That was an insane story, but sucked to get left hanging without knowing the outcome.

Correct! The only time ive personally seen them go after a customer was for a voided warranty the customer didnt disclose the car was used at a HPDE events.
