12 volt powering off with car
Does the front 12volt charger by the cup holders power off for everyone when the car is off? My radar detector seems to stay on even when the car is off...

I tried the one near the cup holders and under the glove box (also for radar detector) and neither turn off power when ignition is off for me. I'm getting used to turning off detector each time I stop, as my last car cut power when ignition was turned off.

I used the one that powers rains sensor (pry plastic rear view mirror shroud, and you will see it). Can also google for instructions with pics. a

I used to have my RD plugged into the outlet on the passenger side before I tapped the mirror. But I'm pretty sure the power does get cut off. There's just a delay. And it comes on if you open the door (and maybe trunk).

Time to do the radar detector hard wire. No more cigarette light adapter required or wires hanging.
Search for post from Tom of EAS. You tap power from wiring behind the rear view mirror / overhead light wiring which shuts off after about 5 minutes. I printed it in pdf. Please see attachment. Credit again goes to Tom of European Auto Source. Great seller. Dan |

I have a high power USB adapter plugged in to my cigarette lighter jack to charge my phone while driving and mine turns off after about 6 minutes of shutting down the engine.

This is one thing I really dislike with these newer model cars. Because of things like comfort access, trunk-foot wave, etc, some of the electrical systems of the car say on for as long as 45 mins after the car is turned off, to be on a sort of standby mode. It can eventually drain your battery if you have things like radar detectors, aftermarket amps, that don't have a 'smart' way to power down.

The reason I love this delay is due to my experience with the stop/start functionality on my previous car. When this was on, the car would turn off at a stop light and the radar would turn off as well. Then when I set off, it would turn on and I'd hear that start sequence again. Very annoying. With this, I don't get that behavior and I love it. I ran the power from the port under the glovebox and up the passenger a-pillar to the headliner over to the driver side of the rear view mirror. Love it! |
