Hot Climate vs Cold Climate version?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Winters get cold here (-30C), should I be looking for 842 Cold Climate or is there such a thing anymore? |

As far as I know different settings for the cooling output of the climate control controlled by the IHKA (Integriertes Heizung und Klima automatic).
From the tech docs: IHKA programming enhanced to produce more cooling output when selected to “hot country”. (Footwell and defrost vents closed to allow more center vent air for maximum cold air.) I do however see a difference in the part numbers for the cooling fan parts (fan assembly, shroud, ...) it is not clear what the difference is. Last edited by G4BR13L; 03-14-2019 at 04:37 AM.. |

For the F3x series there is a difference.
Part # 17 42 8 641 963 is 400 Watt Part # 17 42 8 641 964 is 600 Watt (hot climate version) I don’t know where I looked earlier but for the F8x I don’t see a difference in part numbers for the fan. I would expect ‘cold climate’ to come with better insulated hoses to prevent condensation from freezing in the hoses but I don’t see different part numbers for any of the hoses in the F8x. To give an example take the crankcase vent hose (number 7) where one would expect a difference if there is a difference: I don’t see different part numbers but on the photo in the link you can see that they are insulated: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...e/11127850244/ Maybe there is no difference for the F8x but then I wonder if this is going to give problems in very cold climates. The ‘cold’ vs ‘hot’ climate is totally new to me |
