Hey buddy! No rubbing whatsoever. =) Even on full radius turns, I have zero rubbing. Surprisingly, even going up driveways and turning the wheel, still...zero rubbing. I have to be honest though, it took some time to figure it all out. First, I have no spacers in the rear. The F8X has more room for a wider wheel more inward, deeper inside the wheel wells. So, the further in you go, the better off you are fitting a wider tire. Your offset is very important, too. I'm using the stock 18s, since they are technically the lightest wheels you can fit on the car while clearing the brakes. The front is the tricky part. I got a racing alignment all around, so I have a bit more negative camber in the front and rear. Then I had to align the car a few times to get it perfect, and now, I have no rubbing whatsoever. Under any circumstance....super-hard acceleration, and deep turns...I don't rub. The front needs a good amount of negative camper, and 15mm spacers...if not, you will definitely not fit the 285/40 on the car. Whatever you do, you will rub (speaking from experience). ***I recommend that you use 275/40 for the front...for some odd reason, the car handles like a dream with 275s up front and with stock wheels and alignment and 15mm spacers, you wont rub at all. I have MS competition suspension up front, and custom suspension in the rear...So, this is with a drop also.

First and foremost, it's an amazing tire for it's purpose. It definitely grips better than just about every tire I have used on previous vehicles. But...and this is a HUGE "but", the 555R is a heavy tire. What makes it worse is that all the weight is at the very outer part of the tire; A lot of unsprung mass. If you ain't putting a lot of power down, you will definitely feel a nasty weight difference. You will be a full second slower in the quarter mile (also speaking from experience). It really slows the car down. I have the 305/40 in the rear....that tire is super-duper heavy. Even the 305/35 will give you a sluggish feeling, but will do the job just as well. If you're not pushing more than 550whp, I wouldn't recommend it. I got the 305/40 because I am honestly trying to push the car to hit 1000hp, and mark my words, I will get there. I don't care what it takes...I will have a 1000hp M4. Another setback is that it's a very soft compound. So, the wear is quite quick if you do a lot of spirited driving. I know that people have gotten 12K miles off of them, but I also know people that have gotten no more than 4k miles (which is ridiculous). All that will depend on your alignment, and road conditions. If you drive in Los Angeles, CA...say bye bye to those tires. If you drive in a place where you have clean black asphalt, you'll be good for 12k-15k miles. When you burn out and drag, that goes down quite quickly. Also, this tire sucks for canyon runs, or autocross since it will flex.....a lot. Plus, you need to have the tires at 27-28psi cold, and no more than 30psi warm, for the street. Anything above 30psi will wear the tire out in the middle very very quickly.... If you daily drive the car, I wouldn't get it. In order to keep the handling somewhat good, you gotta pump the tire up to 34psi, which will wear that tire out before you get home. - I wouldn't do it. I would definitely not recommend this tire, UNLESS you will drag the car. If you drag the car and only drag the car, you'll be fine. I've had my car for almost a year, and I have 2100 miles on it....all miles from building the car and driving from shop to shop. It will not see public roads anytime soon. I hope this helped. Don't want to discourage you, but I don't want to lie either. Last edited by Account Closed; 03-04-2016 at 03:08 AM.. |

Wow, thank you for the detailed response!
Just looking for a good tire to hook 1st on the strip and on the street. Will look at other options, willing to sacrifice miles for grip. Maybe I will try the 285/40 instead?

You can also look at the NT05 tire...not the R-compound, the regular NT05. It will grip good, but not great...and that's only because of the weight. Some people think they're gripping better because the tire is better, but they're gripping better because the tire is heavy and the torque that was once transferred to the stock MPSS has lost some of it's bite...so it's actually a bad thing. They're loosing that power/torque they had with the stock tires (since they were lighter) You know what, go with your gut, and stick with the 285/40. Follow your heart. I've learned to just get advice from some of you cool people, put two and two together, and do what I personally thought was best for my car. -and most of all, have fun! We're very fortunate to drive these cars...some people, even though the car isn't super expensive, can't afford the M4 or M3. It's a dream car for them...and after wrapping my mind around that a little, I kind of stick to my roots and follow my gut and do what I think is best. =) But yeah, 285/40 would be perfect for the M4. And you'd still get that beefy tire in the rear...which I think just looks freakin' awesome! Last edited by Account Closed; 02-23-2016 at 03:27 PM.. |

You can also do thicker tires with that width, but you'd be adding more weight....and you definitely don't want that. The Ad08r will be a fun tire. Last edited by Account Closed; 02-24-2016 at 02:03 AM.. |

Bump has anyone put big R comp tires on? Looking to put 265/35/18 front and 295/30/18 (maybe 285) r888 or equivalent on the 513M's.

when you switch from oem 19 inch wheels, to 18 inch wheels, how much does it affect odometer? Are you guys doing any coding when you switch back and forth?

Not speaking for the others, and there are def those smarter than me on this subject, but "typically" the overall diameter is pretty close between 18 & 19 as the tire thickness increases or decreases depending on which size wheel you run. Why the tires look beefier (and better!) on the 18s.

Getting close to time for new tires for me. Found a screw driven straight into a tread block on one of my front tires (all the way in), rears are almost worn out, and I just don't love the way the stock Michelin PSS with ~14k miles on them drive.
I'm very torn because I purely drive on the street and I put value on a comfortable ride with less tire noise but I also want maximum dry traction - better than stock - and excellent steering response and lateral traction. I can drive slower and more carefully in the wet, so that doesn't need to be "as good" as the stock PSS. And I want the tires to have a bit more sidewall and width to fill in the stock wheel wells better without lowering or using spacers. I want to run these tires on stock rims and right now I've got the following under consideration: - 265/40 front and 285/40 rear continental DWs - 265/40 front and 295/35/18 rear Michelin PSS - this has the undesirable effect of increasing front diameter by 4mm while decreasing rear diameter by 6.5mm. The rear becomes .2" shorter than the front tire, whereas stock is that the rear is .7" taller than the front. I feel like this could create DSC interference in an undesirable manner. I'm guessing I would need to go with 265/35/18 front and 295/35/18 rear to ensure driving dynamics, albeit at the expense of some sidewall height and possibly ride comfort. Any other non-stock sizes worth considering with a wider rear footprint? |

Weather went to shit here so it is not the best pic. But, here is my 18" Anthracite EC-7 setup with 275 & 295/35/18 MPSS. Rims are 18 X 9.5 and 18 X 11. Hopefully the weather changes and I can get some better pics.
