All I'm pointing out is that the M4 CS per BMW has it at 6.5L parts be damned. I'd love to know whether it's 6.5 or 7.

How do you drive? Your engine might still not be broken in if you only drive in low rpm all the time. Use varying loads (redline pulls, downshifts, etc). I always shift around 3,000rpm minimum for normal driving because that is what Porsche manual states for all their sport engines (probably the best balance of performance and low engine load).
I would put nothing less than Castrol/M1 0w-40 for S55 that makes 150hp/L with huge turbines. 0w-40 was also the only correct engine oil upon the launch before BMW switched to a more fuel efficient and less protective 5w-30. Not sure how good the ravenol is.

While oil burning really is a non-issue, a better question is why do our cars suffer from oil leaks so often?
Valve cover gasket and oil filter housing seem to be super common. Had both of those on my 37k mile M4. Do certain driving habits, conditions or oil have an effect? I basically go for 2 short drives a day (8-12 miles each) so maybe that's it. Lots of heat cycles. Also use 5w-40 oil. Or just luck/it being a BMW. |

I haven't read through all previous posts so it may have been mentioned before to check that oil isn't leaking from the turbo/s via the charge pipes, possibly due to worn seals.
