Best sound with stock downpipes?

What are your guys' favorite exhaust set up with stock downpipes? I am ready to purchase an exhaust for my M4, in between Remus non-res and AWE non-res. I also like MPE + midpipe combo but it's pretty expensive.

For those with catless downpipes, is the gas smell pretty bad? My last daily driver was a BRZ with no cats at all and I'm getting tired of the smell.

The best sound is equal length exhaust. Period.

I would go AWE with res and high-flow catted downpipes. Know a guy with one with no issues at all with the gas smell. Nice and deep at low RPM and screams at high rpm w/ no rasp.

Inevitably if you sit at a enclosed space for too long (i.e a garage) you'll smell it but nothing like that at lights.

Have you considered catless downpipes and a axleback swap? I am running Akra axleback w VRSF downpipes and no issues with gas smell for me.

Came from a catless BRZ as well and with my current setup ( secondary cat delete + catless downpipe ) I can say that the smell is almost 10x stronger than my catless BRZ. Nonetheless, I don't care too much for the smell and am super happy with the sound from my combo. Next step would probably be making it equal length.

REMUS axle back + Active Autowerke midpipe. deep and aggressive tone with no drone. quiet with closed valves and aggressive with open valves.
Perfect balance in my opinion

+1 on equal length. Unless you make this change (which no major aftermarket manufacturer does) you will never change the core 3 cylinder lawn mower exhaust note... all you’ll do is amplify it and waste your money IMO.

Seriously, we all owe ntg, rmd, & spooltwice a major thank you for bringing this concept to the forefront!

Agreed, if you look at all the exhaust on the market they all pretty much sound the same just with varying degrees of loudness, the only difference is when the valves are closed then it will go through their own designed mufflers and some system will be quieter than others. Since most people drive their F8x with the valves open anyways, all of them exit out of the same straight exhaust pipe, maybe with slight variations from the type of resonators or placement of X or H crossovers but in the end, they all sound very similar. AA is the only one that is a bit unique, their system is probably the smoothest on the market but still retains most of the S55's "love it or hate it" exhaust note.

This new equal length system from ntg44/TopGear will definitely be the game-changer. I still can't believe so many of us got duped into paying upwards of $5000+ for exhaust systems in the past that sound the same as stock, just louder and raspier! SMH

Thanks

Just to clarify/reiterate to anyone who isn't following the main thread (or moderators ):

This new exhaust is 100% Top Gear Motorworks's product. I'm just a customer of theirs who paid them to fabricate my original equal length system, which became the proof of concept for the upcoming production system due to the incredible reception it received. I have 0% financial stake in this project, and am just loaning my car for development purposes.

I'm aware of the forum rules, so just want to clarify that I'm not a vendor
