I have found this forum very, very helpful to me selecting the right M4. I picked up an off-lease 2015 M4 Coupe with the DCT about a month ago after looking at 440i's for a bit. A used M4 had all of the equipment I wanted for around the same as a lightly used 440i. I'm super happy.

Anyways, the Air Force likes to move us around pretty frequently. I found on here that their trailers have a decent lip, so I was at least able to arrive at U-Haul semi-prepared. Here is a much better look at the dimensions you might want to take note of if you ever need their equipment:

Front Lip/Bump Stop height: 6"
Front wheel cradle length: 21"

I had no clearance issues with regard to the break-over angle or the doors and the fenders. I used a stacked block of 2x4 that was screwed together as chocks to lift the bumper over the front lip. It worked really well. Also, the tire straps do not touch the wheel when properly configured.

Resurrecting an old thread... but did you have any issues driving up on the ramp?
Also, did you do anything to protect the front from rock chips?

I'm having Race Ramps make me some custom ramps to use instead of wood blocks for the front wheels as I plan to tow my F80 fairly regularly on a Uhaul trailer. Will post more details once we get there.

Custom race ramps came in and should work well for my purposes with stock ZCP suspension. Happy for now though I may have to re-evaluate when I eventually lower the car.

Trial towing run is a few weeks out still, will report back.

That's correct, the dimensions are attached for reference. Of note, with the coating process the vertical dimension ends up closer to 4".

Bumping an old thread, the last resort chains forward and aft on the uhaul trailer… where did you all attach these too? The only viable place in the front is the control arms which I will not use.

About to start towing again but with my e92 m3 this time, will use a similar setup as before.

In terms of the rear tie downs, I don’t know the best answer but I like what the person did in this video. Entertaining video also.

Feeling quite lucky that it appears I can re-use these custom ramps with my e92 m3 at its super low ride height. I did replace the undertray with the Mporium version, that is key here!

So I’ve towed the M3 several times across the country (military). I’m lowered on H&R sports and the uhaul auto trailer works but it’s sucks. It’s is extremely heavy and based on how it is made it suffers when traveling above 60 MPH. The front will absolutely hit if you’re lowered and have a front lip. I used Tomioka Racing Super Slopes to help load the M3.

I used 4 ratchet straps all around to tie the M3 secure to the trailer. Little over 2000 miles one way and no issues other than the front lip and having to go slow. If you can get a nicer trailer definitely go for it but this is cost effective.

Probably hit Home Depot and bring my saw and drill and finagle them so not to wreck my front lip or bumper

Easy peasy. Go to Depot and buy one 2x10 board 8 foot long. Take it to the saw table and tell them you want two cuts of 20" and two cuts of 16". Sheetrock screw the 16s on top of the 20s and you have a set of cheapie race-ramps that fit right into the U-hauler wheel spots.

These things work great to drive up and get my big old jack under the front lift point for oil changes. I stapled some rubber sheeting on the bottom so mine don't slip.

I was also planning on using something like that to back up my rear truck tires onto to get a better angle for the car to get on (essentially lowering the trailer). Hopefully will be all good!

Thank you! Just did this as-is. Worked like a charm on E92 M3 18 inch wheels stock zcp with lowering springs.

I did this recently. Pita. I’m lowered with a carbon lip. Took like 45 mins to get it on and maybe 20 mins to get it off. Putting it on I removed the wheel stops on the trailer, and had to take the car back off the trailer 3x to adjust everything for clearance. It did work tho

I just used an entrace to an empty open parking lot from a road as a ramp while getting it off when I returned from the track and didn’t even need the wood to get it off.
But needed the wood clear the front while the car was sitting on the trailer though.
