Just wanted to provide an update. I took it to another dealer nearby and got my iDrive updated to NBTevo_R (originally had NBTevo_L).

I just successfully coded carplay fullscreen with my mac laptop with windows 10 installed through Parallels desktop from the code kubax86 provided.

As everyone previously has mentioned, highly recommend doing this through kubax86. He is very helpful and responds quickly. I was also told this code is tied to the VIN so you can recode the carplay fullscreen as many times as you want on your specific car if it ever gets erased by the dealer.

I'd like to do the full screen Apple car play update from kubax86, but maybe some one can help answer a few questions.

My car is a 2017 F83:

1) How can I check what version my iDrive NBTevo is?

2) All I've done was upgraded my screen to touchscreen and had that coded to work. Will updating the NBTevo lose the coding?

3) Lastly, what are the differences between the NBTevo versions? Should I just leave my iDrive NBTevo at whatever current version it is now and just do the full screen Apple car play?

Sorry for the newbie rookie questions. I'm interested in doing this but not sure what steps to do first. TIA

1) You can go to map, then click options, then position and version and you will see version there.
2)If you update your navigation you will lose coding
3) You can't have Fullscreen CarPlay on every version. Only NBTEvo_N,O,P,Q,R support it - versions from ilevel 18-03.

You can technically do it yourself and flash it using e-sys. But i highly recommend just taking it to dealer and tell them you have idrive freezing issues. They said there's a bulletin for this issue for the F80 and will flash for you without question.

My car didn't come with iDrive 6 from the factory, I had to do the upgrade of getting a new unit and then having it coded to my car. I also had a few other things coded at the same time.

So I'm worried that either, a) the dealership won't do it for me because I've upgraded myself (not a big deal), b) they do, and it messes up entirely and no longer works in my car, or c) it all works, but I lose all of the other things I've had coded.

Am I being too paranoid?

a) if they do it, unit will no longe work
b) same as a
c) it won't work.

You can flash it yourself and even after that you will lose your coding, and your FSCs and then you will need to put them again, but since you want Fullscreen functionality you will get them from the vendor.

Thank you paulbav. I just checked and it's at NBTEvo_H162611. So from others who have posted on how to get the dealers to do the update, the best excuse is to say that my Car Play freezes. Can they look at the logs to verify?

They won't look at the logs...
They just update and you will get newest R version

I tried doing it today and it didn't work. Macbook pro, enet cable, usb-c adapter. Parallels windows 7. It couldn't find the vehicle. Any ideas?

kubax86 (PM him for more info), he will send you a link to download the software. It's tied to your VIN number and he said I can use it twice.

Open windows and install the software. Connect the ENET cable to your laptop and your car's obd connector. If using parallels or VMware, make sure to select connect directly to windows as opposed to bridge mode.

Once connected, click "Find Vehicle". It should find your car (will display VIN number). Click on "identify". It will try and connect to some cloud server and start downloading stuff. This takes a minute. After that click "Start" button.

The process will take a good 5 minutes. Make sure your laptop doesn't go to sleep, don't turn off your car. Just relax and watch the progress. Your entertainment unit will restart a few times, will blackout, will show blue screen, will show "No Signal" for a while and finally it will come up and you will see "Success" on the screen.

Once finished you have your full screen CarPlay.

I'm running ios13, so I have the latest greatest and it's just awesome.

So I did this when I took my car to the dealer. I figured it would just require a software update. When I got to the dealer they said they would have the master tech diagnosis it.... long story short yada yada yada... 5 days later they said they found the problem and replaced my head unit with a brand new one.

I'm curious what defect my head unit had but glad it got fixed under warranty. Either way rocking full screen apple car play ios13 style.

No idea why BMW wouldn't(or won't) make it full screen by default. Curious if new models have full screen CarPlay.

Ok folks - long story short, got this done and it is now amazing! All thanks to kubax86! He is a brilliant person to work with along this whole upgrade. Great advice, excellent troubleshooting abilities, timely, patience....The list goes on and on. I highly recommend going with him.

I had to go complaint to my dealer about my unit freezing and they upgraded me to the newest R version.

I had a bad ENET cable that couldn't detect the car so I went with another vendor and it worked brilliantly.

I then ran the program by kubax86 and got into some issues with the BWM nav not showing up anymore. kubax86 was able to quickly come up with a solution and the end result was total satisfaction.

Problem solved. I had to install a second network adapter for LAN/OBD connection. WiFi connection is used for cloud communication and second one (Ethernet) with the vehicle.

After install I had hard time pairing CarPlay with my iPhone Xs. I had kubax86 help me via WhatsApp. All I had to do is get the phone closer to Nav unit and it paired. Great customer service. Thanks!
