Rear CV Joint Boot Clamp?

Do you guys know what size is the Outer CV joint clamp size? It looks like mine is getting some grease out on the passenger side.(outer bot) The boot it self is fine but has some grease spilling out on the clamp.

Can that be replaced without removing the axle?..and just buy new clamp and replace it? with the clamp tool.

I was looking through some repair manual and it looks like if boot goes bad and its torn, you need whole axle....

Did you ever figure this out? Found my boots to be leaking past the clamp on both axles. Was thinking of getting cv grease & new clamps

What was the outcome of this? I am having the same issue. It looks like just the clamp is loose and the boot is not torn on both the left and right inner CV joints. My quote from the dealer was $4,400 to replace both axles and differential seals.

I had this recently fixed by a local BMW specialist shop. They do this job on their race-driven M4 quite often and was familiar with the axle boot repair job. They opened up the axles to inspect and resealed with new grease and poked pinholes in the boot to relieve the pressure (that's what they deemed as the cause for the clamp to fail).

2015 F 82 M4 inner CV boot fail

When I took my car to the local BMW dealer they quoted me around $4,300 to replace the axles parts and labor.
Then I took it to another INDY repair shop and were willing to repack the boots with grease and install new straps. Total cost $100.

They suspect that since I lowered the car that when I changed the suspension I did not support the axles and just let it hang. Letting it hang caused the inner boot straps to stress and fail over time. It's been months but both the left and the right clamps were loose enough to allow grease to seep out. Our plan is to drive the car for a few hundred miles and check to see if the new straps hold. If the don't or if the CV joints begin making too much noise then we are looking at replacement. But this is worth a shot.

How did this repair hold up over the past few months? I have the exact same issue and need to figure out if i should just refill and tighten the CV straps. Or replace the straps. I’m not getting any noise or anything like that, just some grease weeping out from the clamps on both inner sides. Thanks.

Ventilate the CV joint. When you drive and the joint get warm you get airpressure inside.
Remove the clamp, put a piece of a plastic strap between the boot and driveshaft, reinstall the clamp.

Either of you have any follow up to how this was handled? Going through the same issue atm. Trying to not spend 4k

So my E46's boot tore open and I learned to pop the axle out and refurb the entire axle and boots.

After doing this and having all the right tools and experience. F80 issue ended up being the clamps both inner boots were not fully squeezed down from factory. They could spin ever so slightly. Used my new crimp tool and squeezed the crap outa the clamps and now they dont budge.

Just wanted to follow up on this. Was about to spend big bucks to have this "fixed" by a shop who noticed it. Fixed myself in like 10 minutes.

What is this plastic strap? Would like a detailed DIY with pics if possible. But if you can send a link that'll be cool.

in case someone is looking, i figured out the clamps used on the CV boots (there are actually markings on them):
Outer:Clamp 9mm Band Stepless Ear Oetiker 167, Stainless, Clamp Size 75.5mm
Inner:
Clamp 9mm Band Stepless Ear Oetiker 167, Stainless, Clamp Size 42.5mm

They're cheap and you can find them at belmetric.com.

Now if someone can help me figure out where to find the replacement boots, we have everthying we need for rebuilding them.

Noice. I ended replacing my axle with a GKN. I still have my old one and will inspect it to find the type of boot it is.
