Engine Oil Temp Sensor
Every once in a while my engine oil temp sensor fails and reads 0 putting the car into overheating mode. After ECU reset, it works fine again for a while.
I want to replace it but looking for the best way to do that. I tried taking out the intake and hot side J pipe to get to the side of the cylinder where it should be according to realoem but i could not locate it from that vantage. Do i need to remove the charge air cooler and intake manifold to reach it? Item 12: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=3C93-USA-09-2014-F80-BMW-M3&diagId=11_5589 Thanks for any help! |

It looks to be down deep…near the vacuum pump and HPFPs.

Bump from the dead. I think I might be trying to do the exact same thing too.
OP - Did your DME throw a DTC 1D2008? "Characteristic field operating thermostat stuck open" And if your are referencing item 12 in the real OEM diagram, yes the charge cooler and intake manifold will need to come off. I had to replace a faulty low pressure fuel sensor a while back that sat in the same vicinity.

I thought you already fixed this issue by replacing the "coolant thermostat" and you said it took care of the gauge on the right side of your dash not moving... which is OIL temperature not coolant. So did that end up not working for you? OP did you fix this? |
