Dyno Results K&N Panel Filters
After the baseline I installed the panel filters w/charcoal panel delete and went back to the dyno after about 300 miles.
91 oct, 5th gear, dynojet. Blue: Baseline is stock. Only catch can installed. Red: K&N filter and charcoal delete. Looks pretty good to me. 10whp down low, 20 at the midrange and 5 near redline. Torque gains even more except top is about the same 5wtq. I can hear the turbo spool up a little more in sport +. |

Thanks for taking the time to dyno the drop-in filters.
Your results mirrored my butt dyno when I did the K&N drop-ins recently. Last year I installed BMC drop-in filters and felt a substantial loss in power everywhere. My thread here I decided to switch immediately back to the stock filters and decided to stay with them until last month. I was still curious about drop-ins because I planned on going to an E30 tune, I thought let's give K&N a try since I had a good experience with them on my E92 M3. After installing the K&N drop-ins last month, it was a nice improvement over stock, the car just felt more responsive, mid-range felt like it picked up a good amount. Glad to see the data to confirm my suspicion. I initially bought the BMC filters because of recommendations from a few forums members and vendors, hey if it comes stock on a GT3 than it should be good enough for the S55 was my thought. From my experience, BMC filters do not work well on the F8x, I felt a power loss and sluggish throttle response. K&Ns on my car seems to work amazingly well, even better than the stock filters which I thought was the best setup until recently. Last edited by DanMpower; 10-22-2019 at 01:17 AM.. |

There was a 20* difference in ambient temps so your K&n graph would have made even more power if it was 73* ambient like the baseline.

Interesting regarding the BMC filters. Should be basically the same thing as K&N, no? I hardly drive the car so it's hard for me to gauge the feel afterwards, but it did seem like it was pulling harder as I got to 6k. Along with much lighter wheels on the car, it just jumps. The change in wheel setup I could feel immediately. I have K&N in my other 2 cars and have benefited them also. Seems more so in the M3. Quote:

Ideally, it would be to show the uncorrected results, if you have them available.

Good data showing the gains from filters/charcoal delete.
K&Ns are ok, but the build quality of the BMCs are much better (especially in the filtering and wick/bleed area). I'll try to locate a set of K&Ns and do a comparison sometime soon.

I haven’t looked, but I have them in my DD and Lotus and never had an issue with the MAFs over several cleanings and re-oiling. Quote:

Thanks for taking the time of doing this and sharing the results .
I wonder how much comes from the K&N and how much comes from the charcoal filter removal.

That’s an interesting question. If I had the time, I could have done it. I’m trying to remember how thick the fibers on the charcoal filter are. My guess would be maybe a third or half of the gains? Last edited by shay2nak; 10-25-2019 at 01:46 AM.. |

Atleast on his Subaru. Every car is differently designed so a comparison must be made on aF8X car to be able to see the true effect.
