Driver assistance package. Lane departure warning, collision warning, and blind spot monitoring.

The buttons are to turn on or off the blind spot monitoring, lane keep assist, and emergency front collision alert. It's part of the drivers assistance package in earlier models, not sure of 2018

It's the same for 2018. We ordered this for my wife's 2018 M3 CP.

Those buttons are part of the optional "I lack vehicular spatial awareness" package

Garbage you don't need. The extra cubby hole (which is WELL hidden) you get without those buttons is 1000x better, that's where I keep a backup 9mm Kimber.

My 18 Comp M4 didn't have it because it had the stupid lane assist or whatever so I was out of luck, but my 15 F80 is once again back to packing a backup!! |

That middle button will scare the hell out of you on the track if you forget to turn it off! A big red thing appears in the HUD!
I’m kind of used to it now, just reach down between corners on the track and push at it.

Does anyone have the part number? I for one would like to have that storage and can't see why 3 stupid buttons that are pressed once a year take that away. IMHO those are pretty much set it and forget it functions, I have the first 2 on, the blind spot detection isn't bad as your steering wheel rumbles if you put a blinker on while having another car near you (or maybe it's rumbling because I'm using blinkers, I'm doing it wrong aren't I?) Lane departure warning is useless to me. I'd rather have the hidden compartment to store my grenade.

These buttons are useful for me. The car will brake for you if you're going to hit something. It may see a deer in the road before you do. Also, I tend to drive more in the center of a two lane road. It gives me more time to avoid animals coming from my right which is the harder way to spot. This will vibrate the steering wheel to let me know I'm drifting out of my lane.
It also saved me once when I was driving home from a late night and my phone slid off the front seat. I was going maybe 30 mph on a back road and another car was about 5 car length in front of me. I bent over to pick the phone up and the car slammed on the brakes, I almost crapped myself. The car in front of me stopped in the middle of the road for no apparent reason. I'd of rear ended the other car. I know. I know. Nobody on this forum drives distracted and are better drivers that I am. On the street, I like the computers watching the road too. On the track, it's both hands at 9 & 3 and full attention. I do like the gun compartment alternative. I have that going on in my X2 which doesn't have the driver's assistance. |
