It is just going to show how truly special these NA engines in the outgoing M3 and previous gen M5 really were. And who cares, we're entitled to our own opinions. You're whining, about other people whining.... |

Some crazy tuner out there will transplant the S65 into this car when it comes out... for a whole lot of WIN.

Or maybe you can modify the in-cabin speaker "active sound" system to play the S65 engine noise inside while driving!

IMHO this thing sounds better than the current M3. The V8 M3 sounds to much like a Corvette or modern Mustang. It's in no way a bad sound, but it's not the traditional BMW M3 soundtrack. Even the M5 doesn't have that V8 sound track due to the crossbank exhaust manifolds.
The new M3 with the S55 engine probably sounds more European or traditional BMW M3 like. I really like the sound track as it seems to stand out more and has more aural drama than the more subdued V8 burble of the current gen M3. And it's probably not quite fair to compare a modified M3 with Akra exhaust to a pre production M3... And in a blind test; How many could tell that M3 from a modern Mustang or 'Vette? These are some M3's also tootling around the 'ring: Last edited by Boss330; 04-18-2013 at 03:41 PM.. |

Funny how change always creates the exact same reactions every time. Last it was the E46 crowd complaining about the E9X V8 sound, now that we are going back to the 6 it's the V8 crowd preferring that "american" sound and comparing a 6cyl with a "ricer" sound. After a while the S55 will be accepted as a great sounding engine and if BMW changes concept for the following generation, history will be repeated... Thankfully appearance and sound is not objective matters but are subjective and we adapt to new styling and sounds at a different pace. Some will always prefer the original M3, some the 6 cyl generations, some the V8. And so it should be. If we all agreed on everything, we would not need discussion forums at all And this is one of MY favourite old school sound tracks: That engine REALLY sings a beautiful sound |

Sounds horrible... they're compensating the two cylinder drop by making the stock model louder than the e9x M3. Way to go BMW.
With an easy tune, a 335i can get exactly the same performance numbers as this... I hope this fails and they're forced to return to the V8. Bottom line: S65 will be a classic legendary engine.. |
