I think everything is going to be fine. The engineer's at M want this to be as successful as possible, especially with the competition from AMG and Audi RS. Once the final product is released, I feel that it will be embraced and that takes nothing away from any previous generation M3.

Bmw should make two versions; one with this S55 and another (maybe make it special order) with the S65. Give the people what they want: a choice between an efficient, technologically advanced 6 or a stupid (in a good way) v8
I'm genuinely surprised that by this point in time you can't go to a bmw dealership and special order any bmw engine into any chassis (obviously for a fee) you would think that by this point in time you can have your bmw the way you want it |

Every generation of M3 has been loved. I don't anticipate this being any different.
Also, I'll reserve judgement on the actual exhaust until I hear it in person. I never got how people ooh and ahh over the sound of an exhaust recorded on a small microphone and played back on computer speakers. Also, of course it'll have that pop because of the blow off valve. In fact it seems to sound a lot better than most other turbo'ed engines in that respect. The S63tu valve sounds downright sinister. |

Well, this is more representative of the e46 M3. Hopefully the weight is down from the E90, and the tone of the exhaust is not much different (minus the farts) From the E46. While I think the V8 was one of the best sounding engines from BMW (only exception IMO is the V10), I believe this car will be pushing BMW closer to its roots of handling with a big boost in torque.

I have an 08 M5... yes it does sound better than the F10 M5. But that's just my opinion. My brother has a F10 m5. It burbles all the time, but does it sound ricey? Heck no, why is it all of a sudden when an exhaust afterfires and burbles a bit it's ricey.. I don't get it.
Wait till they get an exhaust on that car.

With an exhaust sound like this
Shouldn't it at least say "excuse me" after it passes?

Hmm for me it's not that the tone is bad, but where's the excitement, the urgency, the screaming racecar? It sounds like it redlines at MF'ing 5k rpm!!! THAT is why it is disappointing to me. I expect HP to peak near or at redline and that redline should be at least 7400 in a 2014 M car or just forget about it. From how it sounds, they're short shifting probably due to early peak power. My judgement is reserved until a final product but these videos all leave me feeling cold.

what sux is that this s55 will have ~100+ lb-ft more of torque, yet produce the same power ~415hp as the s65. What this means to me is that the boost is going to cascade down dramatically after 6K rpm (probably for engine reliability). It also means this engine is going to be rev-limited, in all likelihood to <7500 rpm.
hopefully, they make up for the less rowdy engine with the weight-loss and suspension changes they keep talking about.

What can I say, no power steering, no electric steering, no dct... amazing driver.... New M3/M4, electric steering, electric everything, turbo, hardly any increase in Horsepower, wow, 100 lb of torque.... I don't know what BMW is thinking, but it is not enough, same HP..... it should at least be in the 450's + and same torque. Not impressed at all... oh, it sounds like crap! |

I'm really looking forward to this car... but to those calling the S65 lazy... lets not forget that itweighs less than the N55 (and likely the S55) and freely revs to 8400RPM. And man it sounds soo f'ing good doing so.

no.... it's not the way it's always been, the original M3 was 4 cylinders.... What you do expect is way better car (M3) than previous, this isn't so far. it's more like a modified version of a great car, the E46 M3.
