This will be the first M3 generation since the E36 that I won't put a site unseen deposit on. I hope I'm wrong, because a new 911 would stretch my budget, but I think most people end up graduating to Porsche and this may just accelerate that. |

I saw a last minute push to snatch up E92 M3s but now I'm seeing new 911s everywhere.
BMW needs to hurry up and reveal the new M cars before every switches over to P cars - it's already happening. They better be good. But BMW is raking the sales right now so who knows. |

BMW hasn't produced a great driving car since the development of the limited production 1M, and they may realize that. But if the same crew that put out the current M5 and M6 are still on the payroll books, the M3 will just be a scaled down M6. |

I regret to report that, after communicating via private message with ASAP, he has chosen not to honor the bet. I will not be disclosing any direct quotes from our correspondence since it was a private conversation. However, I can relate that the general sentiment from him is that this is too debatable to call. This, despite the clear fact that the bet was for 7501+ RPM and the official number is 7600 RPM. Additionally, he is claiming a difference between the notions of "redline" and "rev limiter". This, even those his exact words as found in post 156 included neither of those terms but were instead, "3.0L S55 Motor revving to...".
Now, I will say that I am not surprised by this outcome given conclusions drawn from our past interactions on the forum. However, it does sadden me a bit because I think it sends the wrong message about our community and only serves to reinforce the negative stereotypes that already befall us as BMW owners. What is perhaps most unbelievable about this situation, though, is that the proceeds were modest and were intended for a charity. Throw in the fact that it is the holiday season and you really end up at a loss for words to describe the decision making process at play here. Which brings me to my point. I thought that perhaps we could reverse this situation and instead come together as a forum and take up a collection that we could then donate together to a worth cause in the forum's name. I am in for $50, naturally. Is there any interest from other members? |

Mkoesel, I have a difficult time understanding your point. We argued a very very broad point. The general notion here was 8k rpm would be how high the engine would rev. This was consistently heard and argued by all members, I chose to argue that it would be lower. I set a 7500 rpm and up redline, the redline arrives much sooner than the revlimit. The revlimiter is 7600 rpm, this is where fuel cutoff happens. When I look at the very s55 specs here on this site, peak power is at 7300 rpm and looking at the m3 tach, it is pretty obvious that the redline has to start much sooner if the revlimiter hits at 7600. Simply put, i do not wish to argue this, I just don't think you win this one. If the revlimit is 7600 rpm, redline has to be much sooner, I dont see how anyone could argue that.

"3.0L S55 Motor revving to 7K, at most 7200 - mark my words" You said "revving to", which I called you out on, and you then set the terms at 7500 RPM cutoff to which I agreed. There was nothing in the terms about redline or rev limit. It does not get any more clear cut than that. Quote:
But I will take care of your responsibilities since you obviously will not. |
