Couple things I have noticed...
BAD: 1) Valvetronic - YIKES... tuning capabilities are somewhat out the window. 2) Plastic Waste Gate Actuator - That could cause some problems hope it doesn't melt... 3) Dash - WTF was BMW thinking... GOOD: 1) Weight - HOLY COW IT IS LIGHT!!! 2) Cooling System - Water to Air?!?!?! Even just adding cooling system mods (such as a better pump) will add power. Could be bad for engine temp if it is trying to regulate air temp throw flushing water to cool it. 3) CF Drive Shaft - This is just smart to shave weight 4) Power to weight - spectacular My only feeling is this will fall short of the GTR and still be within 30k of a supercar... Good job BMW and we shall see what happens! -Mike |

True, it's probably a good thing considering how many people don't rev match properly and beat the crap out of the synchros

Absolutely no public shaming is deserved. Once you add fluids, driver etc you are at 35xx. That's about 200lbs lighter than the e90 and the same weight as the 335i. Even the most pessimistic people on the board expected that. BMW stated it would be light than the 435i and it looks like it will be by a few pounds.

Z4M unladen weight was 3232, so I expect the Z4M to actually be even lighter. Maybe 3,100-ish, going by the how bmw is calculating the weight of the M4.

Wonder how the driveshaft will hold up to the likes of launch control. As well as added power once the tuners get a hold of this car. Pretty cool nonetheless! Going to have to test drive one of these

I love the m4 and the specs are great. I still believe the weight is simply a marketing gimmick of no options on the base car but I'm not concerned so much about weight as I don't see M cars as viable track cars anymore and wouldn't track one either given other cars that are far better suited but this looks like a great daily car. I just hope they don't mess up the electric steering bc everyone but porsche (perfect eps) has been awful at this to say the least and we know bmw blew it on eps thus far big time. I also hope they don't fall flat once tq drops off to redline like their other turbo motors do. |

I assume it's a defeatable feature, but it's cool nonetheless. Rev matching down into 2nd in my E92 can be difficult at the track. 3rd and 4th are no problemo though.

Actually would rather not have the auto rev match.
CFRP driveshaft, really curious to see how durable this is over time. Only a matter of time before we get composite suspension, too. PS Autoblog needs to eat their words...
