Both .....it's a tough decision...both cars look great. Honestly, have to wait for GrandCoupe and convertible to see how they look like....definitely going to pass on GT if it gets an M variant:/

My first car was a 1971 Alfa Romeo Berlina. That was simply because they lost value much faster than the Spider or the beautiful GTV, so I could actually afford a used one. I paid $1 per cc.
It was butt-ugly but I got hooked on how well it drove while at the same time being so incredibly practical as a daily driver. It would destroy my buddy's 2002, which had only 2 doors. My DD has been a 4-door ever since. Deposit is in on the M3!

Everybody and their rich kids around here have a 328 sedan. I feel like the 4 door version of this car is way too common.

Per official literature it was 22 lbs. (...see quote below from one of our many threads about it)... Quote:
....and once you start adding options it becomes a fruitless exercise because the marginally heavier sedan could be lighter than a coupe depending on the options on both cars. Even at 50 lbs. though, it's still fruitless. I agree with you. |

See here http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=925930 and here http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=925298 Agreed, once you start adding options weights will start to diverge. But the base difference still is 50lb for cars with the exact same options. |

I've seen that, but BMW's 'official' numbers aren't consistent, and it ain't worth arguing about which of BMW's reported numbers are or aren't true. It's not like I pulled the 22 lb. difference out of my ass.

We have no kids but I still favor the sedan for my next car. I like the looks of the sedan. It is also handy to have four doors when running errands and throwing stuff in the back seat or going on trips.

IMO, the official BMW weight figures are the ones from the press release quoted by Jason. I have not yet seen any "official US" figures for the F8X... |

that's a fair point. however, my biggest gripe from owning coupes is the long doors. they don't make ingress/egress easier, as you might suspect. they actually make it more difficult because the door is so long that to open it enough to get out it swings out so far. this is especially a problem in parking garages where space is usually tight.

4 Doors are boring but if you have kids & etc it makes sense. I think I would choose M5 over M3 though.
I will be ordering a coupe and never considered the sedan.

I like the look of both cars. Going with the M3 because I used to own a 135i coupe and found it a bit inconvenient for hauling people and things. While the M4 is a bigger car it's still not conducive to carrying a drumset and other gear to gigs. I have an X3 now and it's going to be tough to give up the utility - especially the easy access to the back seat. The M3 is the best of both worlds and the fact that it looks great is icing on the cake.

Some comments ITT are amusing.
Four doors certainly has that practicality upside for family and even the small door advantage for those tight places. The sedan may even look better to some eyes where the M4 and M3 are judged. To each his own. For me, it's a straight forward question "Is the vehicle going to be used as workhorse, DD, or rugrats hauler or will it be a weekender, toy vehicle?" Four doors would be desirable for workhorse duty. For a weekender, a two door model is the ticket. The oft noted impracticality of merely two doors is well taken and a criticism that the two door model could and should use as a counterpoint toward sedans as coupés can point out to sedans, especially sport sedans, that nothing screams "COMPROMISE" quite as loudly as their four doors.
