Front strut clunking

Anyone have this issue too? 20k miles, 2016, non adjustable suspension. I noticed that it was a clunking kind of like when a strut goes bad. So I took it in and explained to them how it sounded and the foreman agreed to go on a ride with me, and he also heard the sound. But it’s odd to me that this would happen so early on a car like this. Just wondering if this is common. Confirmed the sound is 100% gone now, so I’m glad for that at least.

I have the same problem with aftermarket suspension. My coils were sent back to KW and they said nothing was wrong. I did the sway bar fix and still same noise. Since I changed the suspension, it's no longer covered under warranty. My next is to order part# 313 078 53702 which is the strut bearing.

Give an update when they figure out what your issue is.

Interesting... I have JRZ coilovers and I have a slight clunking noise coming from the front driver strut as well. This is the only one that makes noise. My stock edc suspension was silent.

good to know it's not just me after installing KW V3s. I had no sounds with stock suspension and replaced with V3 when i had less than 1k miles on the car. I've been chasing the clunking sound for almost a year. I read the thread about properly tightening the sway bar and that didn't help. The shop that did my install even sent my front coils back to KW for evaluation and they found nothing wrong. the only thing left is #6 in the diagram as i mentioned.

the sound is only when i hit sharp bumps, street reflectors do it every time and speeds under 20mph

Is that the same as the "upper mount" they replaced, per the techs notes?

Edit: yes it is. So in that case, it didn't fix it. You think the design is defective?

It could actually be your sway bar end links. I'd check those to see if there's any play. Especially if you're using oem ones.

I didn't check those myself but I they said they "checked the torque" of all the front suspension components. Dont know if that means sway bar too.

i've got the same noises / issues. It comes from the steering system (variable sport steering). Have a look for it in google and search for 3series / 4series steering issues. A replacement will only fix it for 10 - 15k miles, afterwards the noise returns...

They already swapped my strut, support bearing, my suspension, damper and so on.. Nearly the whole front of the chassis.

Really a pity

Currently i am in the second exchange period, although my car has only 15k miles on it. I am really thinking about returning the car, even tho it is the best car i've ever had. But whith these issues, a resell is impossible. The noises cannot be ignored..

wish there as a way we could accurately compare the sounds we're hearing.

i do know that i did not have the issue with stock suspension and noticed it shortly after the damper swap.

I gave up for now, tbh. The sound is still there. I don't know the best way to compare our sounds. All I can do is tell you that it sounds exactly like a bad strut/shock or mount. I drove lots of beaters when I was a kid so it's a familiar sound.
