Updated 11/4 with Q&A from SEMA 2015
At SEMA 2015, we had a chance to speak with BMW representatives Stefan Weiss (Product Manager for M Performance Parts), Eric Reichel (Lifestyle & Accessories manager) and Jake Mooney (Accessory Specialist – Exterior, M Performance and Motorsport) about M Performance Parts for the BMW M4. Q: What are the details of the M4 M Performance Suspension? A: The M4 M Performance Suspension maintains the factory adaptive EDC function and uses your factory struts to retain adjustability depending on driving experience mode selected (comfort, sport or sport+). It’s paired with stiffer springs and a revised bumpstop tuned for better performance. It comes with an adjustable perch for height adjustability (from 5mm to 25mm drop). The kit is developed in conjunction with KW and it is based on their sleeve-over suspension kit. The difference with the BMW M Performance coilover kit is the M Performance Specific spring rates, bumpstops, and assorted hardware. As with all BMW M Performance Parts, the factory warranty is retained when installed by a trained BMW technician. The springs are manufactured by KW specifically to BMW M’s spring rates and the kit has been tested on a four post rig and fine tuned at the Nurburgring. The reason why retaining EDC function was important is because the take rate on EDC is 70-80% on the M3/M4 in the US. For your reference, the M4 on the SEMA floor is lowered 20mm. Q: Does the M4 carbon rear diffuser fit the M3? A: Yes Q: Does the M4 carbon rear diffuser work with the trunk kick release feature? A: No, carbon fiber in general will block radio signals and other various types of signals (Wifi, Bluetooth etc) from being transmitted. That’s why you haven’t seen a carbon fiber shark fin antenna - because it wouldn’t receive/transmit signal. Q: Are F80 M3 side blades / skirts coming? A: Not at the present time. Q: Any other parts expected for the F80 M3? A: The M4 suspension kit will be for the F80 M3 as well. Also, depending on how well the just announced through-flow spoiler sells for the M4, a version may be adapted for the M3 (because of different aero). Q: When will the newly announced M4 parts be available? A: Mid-2016

I would not do coilovers on any of these new cars until I did a lot of driver education first. There is so much performance to extract out of these cars stock. #1 mod is the driver mod. Period. |

Thanks for the update. It is ironic those HAS system is made by KW, maybe KW HAS can finally get some better rep and credit for their kit. For those would like to retain the factory warranty, if the final pricing for this kit is similar to Dinan, not sure who will buy the Dinan set up anymore..

You can bet that they'll be more expensive than the KW kit that they're based on. Somebody has to pay for all of that 'ring time development after all. Whether they come in below or above the dinan kit price is the $64k question IMO.

If there's still an opportunity to ask questions, I'm curious whether the spring diameters in the suspension kit match the KW kit? As i understand it, some clearance is last with the KW branded kit fur to the size (diameter) of the springs
