So are the black ones not cracking? I don't think anyone answered that question.

Most of the time they would just replace them with the same ones. If you want the black ones you will have to pay out of your own pocket for that. That's what I did.

I've not seen any reports on here of the black ones cracking.

If I go in for warranty to fix the crack and I provide the parts for black emblems, will they charge labor under warranty still?

I have more time/mileage with my black ones installed than my silver ones, and so far the black ones still look brand new.

I'm 99% sure that the cracking issue is due to heat. My emblems didn't even last a month under the SoCal sun. When I got my ceramic windshield tint on, the emblems stopped cracking.

Mine started cracking and my car is, for the most part, only exposed to the elements when I'm driving it. My car is always in my garage or in an underground garage at my work.

You should have demanded that they reimbursed you for the cost of new silver ones that they owe you under the terms of the warranty.

Just got the black ones. Replaced under warranty. Dealer said that they were to replace with silver, but BMW sent the black ones. Guess I lucked out! In any case, I'm interested to see if these have any issues in the future and will update if there are.

The new black version of the seat emblems don't crack. That's the reasoning on why they updated. BMW still have stock of the silver ones so that's why many owners are getting warranty replacements with the silver ones again. They have to get rid of them somehow. Once they are all gone then the black ones will supersede the old silver ones if that hasn't happened already.

Just got my car back with black emblems. I told my SA that I kept reading reports of cracking and showed where mine were cracked after only 5,000 miles.

My SA is great and I am happy.

I believe it’s from extreme heat inside car I have black leather and it sits in sun for 8 hours every now and then some days. I am buying a sunshade though. I have the one with still the plastic over one of them and the one with no plastic and after about a year still nothing to see I did look at the silver metallic through the m is starting to shrivel up but not the actual outside of the emblem itself yet. Nothing on the plastic covered one.

My black ones haven't cracked, but the car hasn't been in the sun very much. About 3000 miles. Has 2 pairs of silver and those did crack.

Has anyone gotten these replaced at no cost outside of the 36k mileage warranty?

I just tried contacting BMW NA customer relations and they said it's all up to the dealer essentially. Is there a case number or something like that. My dealer denied replacing mine.

My dealer replaced my cracked silver ones in July and was told it would be replaced with the same silver ones because they need to use the same part number when claiming warranty. Picked up the car and the black ones were installed, I think the work order said there was a newer part number available. Maybe silver ones are discontinued?

The nationwide stock of silver may have finally run out.

I just found it odd that my dealer would not cover them and said the BMW NA rep refused it. Called BMW NA and they said it's up to the dealer?

After being told it was wear and tear, my dealer replaced them. But unfortunately with a new set of silvers instead of the blacks...
