25mm starting pad life
6 laps 1:50 average time (first session, very damp)
29 laps 1:38 average time
15mm end pad life

I was hoping for better life out of these as I was going through a set of DS1.11/RS29 on stock hardware in 2 days at Laguna. If this wear keeps up, looks like I might get 2.5 days out of the thicker pads with the AP kit. On the plus side I experienced zero fade and had a ton of confidence in the brakes even after doing 9 very hard laps in a row. I am going to try the DS1.11 on the front for my next order and see how those do. I know there's not much difference other than initial bite, but Essex says I will get more life out of them vs the DSuno so we'll see.
Laguna is just straight up brutal to brakes across the board. I think the only solution you can get is *maybe* brake ducting to extend the life there. For comparison, on stock rotors and stock pads, I did 2 sessions on essentially brand new pads and burned it all the way down to the bottom, *with* extensive fade.

Good call. I’m going to use Hawk’s equivalent to the Ferodo 3.12, the DTC-70, when I go to Imola next month. I am still trying to decide which cooling solution will work best for Monza based on how hot things go at at Imola.

I think one of the reasons the Essex BBK tolerates heat so much better than other brake solutions is that the instructions tell you to remove the brake shield altogether. I have at least four different cooling configurations I can try to see which works best: no shield, no shield and Porsche lower arm air deflectors, partial shield with RevoZport front scoops ducted to the center of the rotor, or a combination of the last two for maximum cooling. I’ve got temperature strips coming as well so I can gauge the maximum heat at the calipers.

Hey Bud. I currently have the DS1.11 and I'm really happy with it. What are you running now? I'd like to know your feedback of the 3.12. Thanks.

Got any pics of the setups? I am curious about the Porsche lower arm air deflectors in particular, maybe as a first step.

I'm surprised you need any cooling at all with the AP kit, that's the whole reason I got my 9668 kit

Will let you know on 3.12, back to Laguna next month.

Current stock calipers w PFC08, which get soft at Laguna, but not too bad at Buttonwillow (new track to me). DS1.11’s were out of stock when I ordered 08’s last winter.

Everything is en route right now. Hopefully it will arrive next week. I’ll post photos when it’s all sorted out.

It depends on the track. The Nürburgring isn’t hard on brakes, Spa has its heavy braking moments with lots of cooling in between, Imola is a little more severe, and Monza is utter torture.

There was a set of 9668s for sale here that had seen several days at Laguna and the rotors were cracked to hell. Obviously no cooling was used. I’m trying to prevent pad liquification like I had two years ago. While I might not need it, it might make things last a bit longer.

Pricey but I also think it's worth it. 👍. What size and brand of studs are you using?

The AP Racing brake rotors with 84 cooling vanes are one of the main reasons why the Essex/AP kit is able to tolerate heat well. I’m running the 9668/9449 setup with PFC 11 pads without additional cooling. No problems with excessive heat.

MSI and bought direct from them - would recommend.

89mm overall length, wasn't sure what spacers would be best with stock wheels. No spacers with track wheels.

EC7 Indeed! 18x10F and 18x11R fit easily over 9668.

Little test drive today at auto club Speedway, what a confidence builder! Can’t wait for Laguna

The F87 crowd is way ahead of us.

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...1366784&page=5

I got a chance to wring out my DTC-70s and Essex AP Racing 9660s today at Imola. I used a custom front cooling solution utilizing 3D-printed scoops and 2.5" CEET hose to the rotor backing plates. Absolutely ZERO issues with the brakes, even when really standing on them with sticky AV08s. THESE are the brakes to have!!!!! I fully intended to install caliper temperature strips, but when it came time to depart I couldn't find them, so I ordered some more.

Up next: Monza, the Temple of Speed, 3 November.

I ran a couple 25-minute sessions at Monza yesterday and my brake cooling package for next year is set.

Front: AP Racing 9660 with Hawk DTC-70 pads, Yperion titanium shims, and 3D-printed scoops feeding the center of the rotors through 2.5” hose.

Rear: Stock calipers with Ferodo DS2500 pads, Porsche 911 GT3 front scoops installed on the rear arms feeding air directly at the calipers, and a 2” hose scooping air under the spring for the side of the rotor. In hotter temps I think the piston dust boots might still be at risk, so I have Yperion shims for the rear as well (if they ever show up).

I installed temperature strips on all four calipers and went bombing around Monza. Air temperatures were around 8 Celsius and the lowest brake temperature indicator (370 degrees Fahrenheit) didn’t even pop. We will see how well they cope next summer, but so far I’m feeling good.

Brakes in action:

If the weather cooperates I’m going to hit Mugello next weekend with no front cooling scoops to see how the brakes tolerate it. So far the forecast is calling for rain, though.
