M4 Convertible vs M3?
I'm more inclined to M4 Convertible(SS with SO interior) as I have not driven a convertible before and it was so fun to test-drive 650i xdrive convertible (hearing engine sound with the top down was a different world to me! Other verts I have driven before shortly Z4, SL550, S2000 but never owned)
Cons for M4 convertible ; *more weight/"less performance/balance", *its rear is not as pretty as M3. *less space(I think we'll be fine in putting a baby car seat as I had G37s coupe before.) Pros for M4 convertible ; everything else. People says M4 vert with extra weght can't perform as M3. I saw a comment M4 vert drives pretty similar to 435i or 428i convertible. Is that true? awaiting your inputs. Thanks, |

It's all personal preference.
I currently own a E93, before that I had a Porsche 981S, before that I had a S2000... If you like convertibles, you always will like them. There's nothing like driving around with no roof, and hearing that beautiful sound roaring behind you every step of the way. I believe my E93 is a total of 400lbs heavier then a similar optioned E92... For DD, that makes absolutely no difference... However if you're buying this car because you're a track junkie, every single pound matters. At the end of the day, no matter what you decide, you will be very happy, both incredible machines. |

You really won't notice the performance difference THAT much between the two under normal driving. You also can't have the vert on a track, so there is that consideration. The m3 has way more practicality if you have a family in terms of storage, putting things on the backseat, and not constantly leaning in to take things in and out of the car.
They are very different. Do you want the practical cool car or the convertible cool car? That's the real question.

+10 - well said.
I was in the exact same boat i.e. deciding on my first ever convertible and was concerned more about space that the addl weight as I knew I would not be tracking this car (well, will do a track once in a while for fun but nothing at all serious in that respect). IN regards space I have to say with the pass through door I have had no issues and the wife and I had two cases each which fit no prob in the rear with roof down for 3 weeks in Europe. Have to say that I could not be happier with the versatility of the car and have the roof down as much as possible to hear my Eisenmann exhaust (also coded off active sound). TBH I never would have categorized myself as a Vert buyer but being a motorcyclist for 35 years ought to have been a clue I guess Bottomline we are talking about a fraction of a second difference in straight line speed and having thrown this thing around the Swiss Alps hairpin bends I was well impressed at the near absence of any body roll, great stability and no movement of the roof. Just an awesome car. Get the vert! PS: I am likely an odd one out but I actually prefer the look of the cabin on the vert vs the coupe. Quote:

After spending time with agony in choosing colors then it's done now for SS/SO. I'm here between M4 vert and M3. I'll go for M4 vert. My wife said, "changed again?" Thank you so much for replies, guys.

Great choice! I agree with those that said you won't notice the difference on the road - but just to be sure I put in a Stage 1 tune to compensate. As others have said; get the M3 if you a) want to track (many tracks don't let verts on at all) and/or b) you can't deal with two doors.
But I'll tell you - no looking back for me. The F83 is the shit!

M4 'vert drives like the M4 coupe on the street. The only difference is in turns you can sometimes feel the weight but you really, really have to be in it. I had the E93 M3 previously and you could absolutely tell the difference. The chassis on the M4 vert is a huge improvement, and the power delivery makes up for the weight difference as well. IMO, the convertible aesthetically does not look anywhere near as nice as the coupe in my opinion. That being said, you're not staring at your car when you're driving it. It's something I've had to get past, but I love the convertible. Also, the seats! The seats are insanely comfortable in this car. I just wish it had the engine from the M5.

Nice! Drive both the coupe and vert if you can.

The M4 Convertible drives like a sports car. You will never get the same senses from driving a 435i Coupe, let alone the much slower 435i Convertible.
