Mines never used a drop in 54k

Your dealer will sell you the oil 0W-30/5W-30 or any of the other outlets

If you have a service pack, top ups are included - just a thought...

Please watch what engine oil you use to top up you M with,

Spoke to a Independant service agent today, He told me BMW are OTT when it comes to Warrenty set up, They will request an engine oil sample if engine fails,
Please use recommended as per BMW

As mentioned above if you have the service pack you'll get free top ups. I think the dealer is around £21 for a litre although I managed to talk them into giving me a litre FOC. I'm sure they supplied 0W-30 twin power oil.

Thanks guys - I called up BMW road side assistance and they pointed me to Castrol 0w30 fully synthetic. Eurocarparts had a sale on our bought 5L for £30.

Iím going to see if thereís anymore consumption as I donít expect it to be going through any oil. The car is religiously warmed up and cooled and full bore only when all the fluids are truly warm. Also only run on V power from new.

It'll be interesting to hear what this warming up and cooling entails?

if your warm up and cool down are static (generally thought of as the "correct method") then BMW actually advise against it. On ignition the fluids warm far more quickly if you start up and go immediatly - obviously gently/efficient mode. sitting idle with cold fluids actually wears the engine more then heading straight off.

Also cool down although if done idle wont cause any issues is unnecessary as the fans will operate after shutdown if needed. My car is whirring away for a good 5 minutes or so every day after ive shut it off and am long gone making a cuppa.

I appreciate this is not accepted as the traditional method - in my old noble i had to sit with the engine running for 5-10 mins to cool the turbo's before turning it off but with the current M's this is whats recommended by BMW.

Please feel free anyone else to confirm this as im only repeating what ive heard. I personally am a mechanical retard but i do read and research my car a lot lol

Agreed, start up and drive off and when you stop, just shut down as the car cools itself if needed.

Warming an engine at idle isn't good for it.

Yep agreed. Things have come a long way since the old days of turbo timers and keeping the engine running for 10 minutes or so after a fast run. The cooling systems are far superior these days.

Hi, I reopen a topic from years ago.
My dad's M4 is the second time in 3 months (about 2500km / 1550mi) that the warning to add 1kg of oil comes out. Has this happened to you other times after what you wrote in 2017?
So we can know whether to start worrying or not ... the car is from August 2014 and has 86000km (53000miles) and has always done the services in bmw.

Mine has done 41k and whilst I can't say it has never used a drop, it certainly has never warned of low oil and asked for a top-up. I have always done an intermediate oil change though.
