Yes, the M4 is a head-turner

I seem to recall another thread from a month or two ago asking M4 owners whether their vehicles got a lot of attention on the street. Well, I picked up my SO M4 last week, and have put about 1100 km on it so far, and I can safely say this: yes - this thing is a huge attention magnet. I'm not sure if it's the SO exterior color which really does pop, but I am incredibly surprised by the amount of attention this car gets. A random list off the top of my head:
  • A big crowd gathered outside the entrance to the Welt valet area right after I had picked up the M4 and was waiting for the valet
  • Similarly, a sizable crowd gathered when the valet brought the car back out for me when I was done at the Welt
  • On the drive to the hotel the same day, at least two other people in other cars on the streets (in Munich) took pictures of the M4 - there were clearly visible camera flashes
  • A blue Z4 with a Go Pro mounted on it literally chase me up the Stelvio (are you a Bimmerpost member?!), and then summoned his friends who were driving an M235i and Mini Cooper to get a look at the M4 and take pictures with it
  • Ate at a restaurant in Davos and sat next to the window - saw two separate groups of people come up to and take pictures with the car
  • At Vaduz Castle in Liechtenstein, a small group gathered after I parked the car to get pictures with the castle in the background... one person in the group asked if I was from Monaco!
  • Also in Davos, at our hotel, was parked next to a white Gallardo for a bit, and I honestly am not exaggerating when I say this but I am fairly certain the M4 got as much attention if not more
  • Refueled at a gas station in Bellinzona, where there was this big group of bikers, and a couple of them came up to me to ask questions about the car - one of them correctly identified the Sakhir orange

That's just what I can recall off the top of my head - there's quite a bit more. I remember when I first got my SLK, and that thing was a huge attention magnet. The Black E93 was a lot more stealth, which was a nice change (at least with the top up). Not entirely sure how I feel about all the attention this SO M4 gets... but there's no doubt it gets it.

The color definitely helps grab your attention in a crowd of cars. From my time in Europe, the typical cars on the street are pretty neutral monotone, even more so than in the States.

Congrats on the new car. Post pics when you can.

You just need to keep that thing in Europe for awhile so I can have my fun!! I am supposed to take delivery of my SO M4 (full black) at BMW of Austin next week.

Congrats on the car. I believe the color is a big attention getter. That's why I chose SO which I will be picking up tomorrow.

I had similar experiences during ED, the Germans know their cars and take pride in them. SO stands out in neutral colored car Europe.

Funny, my ED delivery person said Americans order the interesting color combinations (even for non M cars) including non-black interiors and are more fun to deliver. She pointed at nearly every car on the floor of the Welt that was black or silver with a black interior as German buyers, that they rarely even order beige interiors much less SO or SS.

I pointed to a blue with beige interior 5 series and asked where it was going...Canada. Interesting to hear most color choices were for their ROW audience. I have no idea of this is true or not, but she was quite matter of fact. Driving around Germany you certainly do see a ton of black, grey, silver cars.

I had the same experience on my ED with my SO/SO M3. Lots of attention and admiring remarks/glances.

Excellent post. Same discussion I had when I picked up my Barbera Red 335 with the Welt folks. It was all black, silver and white there and for the whole next year in Germany. Always got looks at car parks and when visiting small towns.

Did it occur to any of you it may be because it is a brand new model and there are few to none to be seen on the road? The M3 is a very well known car that has many admirers across the world so when a new model gets released, the curiosity/attention is obvious. Give it a year and the new car hype will change. The E9X got a similar reaction when it was released.

I get mine next year. Will see how many heads it still turns

I think the OP understands that, which is why he mentioned his prior experience with SLK. I got a decent amount of attention with just the B8 S4 in early 2010, which was released in late in 2009.

Now I am getting a funny amount of attention with the YMB M3. Lots of people striking up random conversations about my car, their car or just cars in general.

I would also agree with whoever said its a dick magnet. 95% of the attention is from guys, girls usually don't even notice it unless their boyfriend is pointing it out to them. An unintended side effect of the attention is that I am actuality driving slower than normal in my home town.

Probably both the new model and the color grabbing attention.

My buccaneer red '73 trans am is a huge attention grabber. Sometimes it gets annoying. I literally had a cop pull me over one time just because he wanted to look at the car.

Totally agree ... the weird thing is girls seem to really notice and appreciate brown of all colors. It seems like every time I'm with a girl who notices a sports car it's always brown and they say, "oh wow, look at that color! What kind of car is that??"

In my experience if you want a chic magnet, get brown. (unless it's @Lups then get a prius)

Fu GG, I end up pumping gas a lot, and every time it's a fucking hour of standing there while guys take pictures of the car, and beg me to be in them. I'm avoiding collisions on the freeways bc people try to take a picture of the car while driving. Day two with it behind me, and it's going so well hahaha

In the last 2 days and I FUCKING AM NOT JOKING 27 people have asked me to marry them, and only 2 of them were girls. Asked out: my math is solid but numbers don't go that far. I seriously fucked up with this one.
