Dealer sold me a fake M3 competition

Same situation here went to Steven Creek & Monterey and they would not budge on their selling price beside none of them have a MT, only $5K off MSRP went down to Socal and got a great deal with $12K off with incentive. My car is very similar to yours with all options.

Online info from a dealership it's not 100% always correct. I remember when I was looking for an M3 one of the dealer put Manual on the info but when I go through the pics it's a DCT!

When I first see it's indicated as manual I pass it but I went back to their web again and go through all the pics at the end I find out it was DCT

Almost missed out great deals and great car 🤣

Correct. Initial wheel for the Competition Package was the silver Style 666. My wife ordered her 2018 M3 CP with the black 19" Style 437 wheels because neither one of us wanted to clean the Style 666 wheels. They were a no-cost option.

alot of dealership advertise alot of random stuff. its like they dont even care its wrong. i had to message them to find out if its true or not. stevens creek is kind of over price in sales. and a zcp is really not factored in kbb pricing. i didnt know what a comp pack too. but the rims are a giveaway sometimes. imagine if it was a zcp. over 52k!. i guess the dealership decided to sell the exec package and 20k miles for a higher price car.

I can't help but wonder if this is because of how BMW has branded the updated M2 as the "M2C"

I feel like putting "Competition" into the default name of an adjacent model will cause more confusion over competition packages in the future. There's no shortage of threads here lamenting the BMW branding and marketing strategy lol

I noticed this a lot too- the problem is they're all standard manual, then the options it'll usually list the DCT. Check BMW's own inventory page, all M3/4's are listed as manuals, then when you check options, it'll show DCT if it is one.

I've seen several base and ZCP cars listed as CS models. Dealers don't know what they have but they check all the boxes.

I saw plenty of mis-advertised F8x's for sale when shopping. Dealers are shady, it's nothing new. Ultimately it's up to the buyer to understand what they are getting and it sounds like a bit of negligence from your friend.

Sucks for your friend, but IMO unless the dealer specified the magic three letter option of "ZCP" or Competition Package on the build and you have it in the paperwork I'd say he has 0 recourse.

4. Price at Stevens went up to $54,981!!! Its a 13 month cpo warranty, which is worth about 3-4k, but still, car would sell locally in South Florida for less than 50k. A cpo search shows a 33k mile 2017 cpo for 3k less.

Technically it's not clutchless. The C in DCT stands for clutch.
It's an automatically shifting manual trans.
