A-pillar - interior trim separation?

I don't have a picture of it since it's in the shop getting some new dust shields, but I noticed that the interior trim (the black fiber trim pieces) don't hide behind the windshield. You end up seeing some of the metal frame when the sun hits. I was wondering if this was normal.

They didn't have any other M3's to check but the dealership was going to do some research on it.

Danke!

This was common on the e46 m3...my e92 m3 did not have this problem however. It’s nice to hear BMW is going back to their roots and bringing back their subpar interior build quality.

don't currently have this issue but i did on an E39 and an E46 and both times it appeared right after a windshield replacement. neither replacement was done by a BMW dealer.
are you the first owner of this car?

No, second owner after a lease return. I didn't think to check to see if it was an OE piece of glass. I figure they'll give me a heads up. It does have a chip in the windshield that was repaired at some point.

Mine is the same. I initially thought my A-pillar trim popped loose somehow, I guess it wasn't. I assuming the build quality isn't what they used to be.

I go in tomorrow and I'll get an answer on what they think (probably that it's normal). I got a weird answer on my metal pinging noise from a stop - they thought it was the dust shields but after replacing, don't think that's it and want to drive it more to see if the problem still exists. Thought that was a weird answer.

They also did some type of software thing to my transmission due to a rough 1-2 , 2-1 shift....

Said it was normal.

Still working on the mystery ping noise from the rear of the car, but they did flash my DCT software and it seems like the 1-2 2-1 shift is smoother. Said it hadn't been updated to the latest software.
