I dislike the overall direction of M from a theoretical perspective, but then heavily track the current generation and it's everything I could ask for. They are still getting the basics right, consistently

On paper the C8 is wonderful, but the previous Z06 was also wonderful and it turned out to be a steaming turd for track use because they screwed up on the cooling. I hope the C8 Z06 will fix this but I'm not confident.
Agreed. They've taken an unattractive formula and worked some magic, will give them that. Drove the F90 back to back with my GTS on track. Thing puts power down exiting corners like nobody's business. Turn in still excellent, zero Audi-ness. No downsides that I could sense. Easily the best M5 I've ever tracked (E39, E60), better turn in stock than my E90 without question. If the GTS were similarly equipped w/ awd, probably a 1-2 second/lap gain. G80 with m xdrive (let alone CSL) will be a rocketship on track and a different experience from the F8X. I hope the site is wrong about the design, I'd probably have one.

Look forward to seeing the C8 at the track next year, getting feedback. They did fix the cooling with the ZL1. That thing can go for days on track in stock form, including brakes. pretty nuts considering the weight and speeds.

I'm also really looking forward to getting some track impressions from the C8! I'll make sure to pick Randy's mind next time I see him

Although the F90 feels really good I still would prefer a 80lb reduction and RWD

Coming from a former GM employee, I'd definitely advise against the 1st year model. Lots of unproven technology (from GM) that will have to get sorted out during the first model year, not including the service/support at a dealership. I was hoping the would have tested bits n pieces in former cars (as was the plan) to flesh them out... but alas.

I'll wait a couple years and for a Z06 variant before I'd consider buying but I'm genuinely shocked to be in love with this car.

Go ahead GM!

Never thought I'd see the day on a bimmer forum that there was general love/consensus for a domestic...

Well done GM.

I'm heavily leaning this way as well especially if the G80 looks anything like the render.

Wait for the Z06, then pick up an end of year model for a massive discount during dealer incentive days.

I dont think its just BMW forums but rather every car forum. GM really knocked it out of the park with this one.

Refreshing to see that there are some honest enthusiasts still around. Slap the roundel on the C8 formula, add a little bit of i8 styling (or whatever), and guys would be losing their minds at CS pricing, let alone less. I’d be camping at the BMW dealer until mine arrived.

I've never owned a domestic car but have liked the Corvette since the C5. When the C7 came out, I was in LOVE with the design. When I watched vidoes of the C8 the other day, I had to pick my jaw off the floor.

It's so sick!

I really hope GM has spent the time to make sure this thing will be fairly reliable and the QC is up to par in the construction. Also that the dealers are educated properly on how to service it. Not to mention if you do have a major issue GM corporate isn't a pain in the ass to deal with.

I say the following as an owner of two previous GT350s (one that should have been/effectively was lemoned). Ford knocked it outta the park with the design of that car and fun factor/price for performance etc.

Unfortunately their implementation and corporate culture is/was extremely terrible when it comes to customer service. Also a lot of their dealers were extremely undertrained when it came to servicing the car. Examples are that most splitters on the GT350s are not installed correctly/missing fasteners etc. This has lead to many of them coming off. Also many dealers didn't know the difference between the 5.0 coyote and 5.2 Voodoo leading to many incorrect oil changes and misordered parts for warranty fixes. I'm sure you can figure out what a pain in the ass this could be. Also their corporate CS/culture really sucked. It took over two months and thirty plus phone calls from myself and my dealer to get my engine replaced after it passed all of Ford's protocols for replacement due to extremely high oil consumption. Then add up shoddy build quality which included misaligned panels, hole under my rear window leading to leaks and poor paint quality. Also a few other reliability issues.

The reason I bring this up is because it is a pretty radical design for GM to undertake. They also don't have a great track history with the previous known engine issues and cooling of said engine on some models. I've read and heard plenty of the runaround from GM customer service as well. So if I was to be in the market for this car, I might wait awhile and see how it works out for the early adopters. Otherwise you may see some extended time in a Cruze loaner. I was given a Fiesta from Ford and took it back after two days and drove my F150 instead.

Any way, not to be a Debbie Downer, but something things to think about. It does look like GM nailed this one. I just hope they completely nailed it.

minn19, I have had some subpar experiences with bmw SAs also and i used specific SAs who themselves used specific techs to ensure I got the experience I wanted with my f80.

I don’t think this is unique to any particular brand.

Point well taken though that mainstream brands can have more variability.

Looks like a great value, but having to deal with Chevy service along with all the plebes driving lesser vehicles might scare me off, that and the general Vette Guy perception.

I wasn't trying to say BMW has no issues as that is obviously not true. But, I can only go off of my experiences of what I've owned etc. When I've had a problem with BMW (or a specific SA) it has been handled promptly and professionally. Also if I have a problem (especially an extended one), I have access to a much nicer and safer loaner car fleet IMO.

Every car is going to have issues. It just comes down to how many and how they are handled.

Ford and VW have both been by far my worst ownership experiences. With Chevy up there, but I haven't bought one of their cars/trucks since the 90s so I can't comment. I do know they pissed off a lot of previous Vette owners with the much publicized engine and cooling issues over a couple of generations.

FWIW, I could of easily put up with poor build quality of my GT350s if they were reliable. The drive is the most important thing to me and they were my favorite cars to date to drive. Although my M4 CS is starting to vie for that personal title.

lol, I'm not even a BMW owner anymore, I couldn't take the service department with all the 3 series plebes when I took my M in, at least with Porsches you just have to deal with all the low life Macan and Cayenne owners. Just kidding, I sold it for other reasons.

Dealer should just come with a flatbed to take 911 away for service and leave another 911 loaner. Who wants to go to dealer in the first place?

Sounds like a joke but Lincoln and Genesis actually do offer a pick up and drop off service when the cars need maintenance.

Someone will show up to get your car, leave you with a loaner, and then return with your car when it’s ready

Would be cool if GM offered this for c8. With valet mode and PDR video and data logging as proof of good driving, it could be pretty seemless.

Espresso, donuts, better WiFi than my office, and drool over new cars. What's not to love about the dealer experience?

I contacted one of the top 3 Corvette dealers in the US and he already has 400 deposits out of 600 allocations for next year. I decided to put my name in line in case I decide to get one when my lease ends next June.
